Biomedical Equipment Technician

The BET is responsible for ensuring the proper function and operation of diagnostic, therapeutic, surgical, and general biomedical equipment.

The BET is responsible for ensuring the proper function and operation of diagnostic, therapeutic, surgical, and general biomedical equipment. In addition, the BET is to oversee the service, maintenance and proper application and testing of medical equipment.

The BET must possess exceptional communication skills in order to offer explanation of function and operation of equipment to the other members of the health care team as required.

Key Responsibilities:

• Installing, maintaining, and repairing medical equipment according to the manufacturers or vendors documentation.
• Be the first responder to problems arising with the equipment base
• Assisting with the Installation, maintenance, and repair of specialized (Diagnostic Imaging) equipment
• Evaluate equipment problems and report to Medical Engineering Manager or nominee
• Determine what parts needs replacing
• Carry out Repair procedures
• Testing and calibrating medical equipment
• Maintains Biomedical Equipment Inventory Database
• Carry out In-Service training on equipment safety
• Carry out Preventative Maintenance Programs
• Keeps record of all services and repairs
• Updates job skills and knowledge by reading technical journals, taking advantage of educational opportunities, and maintaining professional networks
• Maintain the goals of the organization a healthy and safe working environment by fulfilling and recommending procedures, performing safety tests, complying with codes

Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills:

• Associate degree in Biomedical Engineering , Technology or Electrical Engineering Technology

• Three (3) years or more working experience in the capacity as a Biomedical Technician
• Exceptional knowledge of the structure and uses of biomedical equipment- Diagnostic Equipment for all Diagnostic Modalities and Hospital Equipment
• Solid technical skills and the ability to repair machinery with meticulous attention to detail
