  DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR

 Purpose of position

 

  1.  Provide technical support for all database installations, reporting and services for the GKFG entities.
  2.  Formulate policies, procedures and standards relating to database management, to ensure data recovery strategies, preventative maintenance, data integrity, system availability performance efficiency and capacity planning for physical database are achieved.
  3. Lead the design and management of high availability database management architectures to support real time disaster recovery, data replication for critical business systems for several companies in the group.

 

 Principal Responsibilities:

  • Create, support, maintain and troubleshoot problems for all databases required for production, disaster recovery, development, testing and usage across multiple enterprise solution for all GKFG companies, to ensure secure services with minimum downtime.
  • Perform the capacity planning required to create databases for new systems deployment and for the ongoing maintenance of the databases as they grow and respond to the ongoing needs and demand of business operations.
  • Ensure availability and performance of the complex database architectures that support multiple specialized business systems (Enterprise banking systems, online banking, ATM & Card Management Systems & Enterprise Financial Accounting Systems).
  • Provide trend analysis reports to the service management team to enable them to make informed decisions regarding resource management.
  • Manage improvement, migrations and maintenance of the database to include rollout and upgrades.
  • Evaluate releases of databases and its tools, and third party products to ensure the site is running the products that are most appropriate.
  • Create manuals and documentation for all database systems and develops SQL scripts  to support overall application and BI data needs of the organization.

 IT Security and Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with security measures and internal control procedures to minimize fraud, forgeries and irrecoverable losses.
  • Apply database patches and upgrades on the prescribed schedule, and configure/add new services as necessary.
  • Perform database transaction and security audits and ensures appropriate end-user database access control levels.

 Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery 

  • Design and implement redundant systems, policies, and procedures for disaster recovery and data archiving to ensure effective protection and integrity of data assets.
  • Participate in the design, testing, and implementation for all database Disaster Recovery Plans.
  • Implement systems to ensure systems recovery capability consistent with the GKFG’s Recovery Time (RTO) and Recovery Point objectives (RPO).

 Required Qualification, experience and key competencies

The successful candidate should have:

  • B.Sc. degree in Computer Science or related area
  • Minimum of four (4) years’ experience as an Oracle & MS-SQL Database Administrator
  • Proven work experience with Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server
  • Experience in managing multiple Oracle & MS-SQL database for medium to large systems implemented with high availability database management solutions
  • Operating system knowledge at system administrator level (Unix, Windows 2012 Server and later), Network (TCP/IP, Routing), security, and exposure to programming (especially Operating System shell scripts)
  • Capable of working in a fast paced, team-oriented, collaborative environment
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, analytical, evaluative, and problem-solving skills
  • Exceptional service orientation and demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities
