SENIOR LENDING OFFICER

REPORTS TO: AGENCY GENERAL MANAGER

1.       JOB PURPOSE

The Lending Officer supports the Loan for Enterprise and Network Development (LEND) Agency’s business development strategy by:

  • Providing assurance that all loan applicants meet the required lending criteria by examining their creditworthiness and thereafter recommending the approval of loans.
  • Soliciting and increasing new and existing business by formulating marketing strategies with the other lending officers to meet and increase agency and personal targets.

 

 2.       PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  1. Promotion of LEND and its services to all existing and potential clients by providing support for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the form of business planning, business mentoring and monitoring.
  2. Applies due diligence in the loan assessment process with all lending officers through the conduct of interviews, analyzing, assessing and making recommendations for approval in accordance with LEND’s guidelines.
  3. Escalating credits to Agency General Manager for  submission to the Board.
  4. Disbursement of loans and preparation of loan legal documents. for loans prepared by the incumbent.
  5. Monitoring of delinquency and consistent follow up with applicable clients under their portfolio.
  6. Ensures that all records are properly maintained, and all services delivered promptly and efficiently in accordance with the systems and procedures outlined in the Operations Manual.
  7. The incumbent works with the Accountant and Administrative Assistant to ensure that workflows are efficient and that all lending information is up-to-date to support reporting to the Agency General Manager.
  8. The incumbent supports the implementation of approved LEND initiatives including but not limited to representing the Agency and Agency General Manager at events aimed at increasing the client portfolio. 
  9. The incumbent supports the Agency General Manager by reviewing completed credit applications, loan legal documentation, reviewing cheque preparation and identifying strategies for gap closure and self-development.
  10. The incumbent supports the Agency General Manager in preparing and submitting various monthly and annual reports.  

 

 

 3.       DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Actively markets the agency’s products to existing and potential clients by soliciting referrals, conducting walkabouts in the designated catchment area etc.
  2. Meets with applicants to obtain required information for loan applications and answer questions about the process e.g. available loans, credit options and terms and conditions associated with possible options.
  3. Conducts due diligence checks and balances as per established guidelines including but not limited to verification that:

            i.      loan applications are completed for purposes that are in adherence with LEND’s policies,

            ii.      information on the loan application is consistent with other documentation on the client’s file,

  1. Completes loan applications in the presence of the applicant ensuring that all relevant documents are signed by him/her evidencing acceptance of the details therein.
  2. Actively assists in the management of delinquent accounts by contacting clients within 5 days of lapse, ensuring that payments are up to date before the next monthly payment becomes due.  
  3. Conducts field visits:

             i.      for new loan enquires within 2 days of receipt of the application and,

             ii.      to verify use of loan funds within 1 month of loan disbursement,

  1. Immediately or as soon as is reasonably practicable, addresses all queries raised by clients with the aim of achieving client satisfaction upon resolution of the issue.
  2. Cooperates in ensuring that the workplace is safe for everyone and takes reasonable care to ensure that nothing is done to endanger self or others
  3. Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Agency General Manager .
  4. Acts in the stead of Agency General Manager when Manager is out of office.

 4.       COMPETENCIES

  • Analytical/quantitative analysis skills (numeracy skills).
  • Strong interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work autonomously i.e. with minimal oversight/ supervision and management of own time.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Suite of application specifically WORD and EXCEL.

 5.       KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

  • At least a Diploma in either Business Management (ABE) Finance or Accounting or equivalent from a recognized, accredited institution. Higher order qualifications in the field will be an asset.
  • A minimum of five (5) O’level subjects including English Language and Mathematics and/or two (2) A’ Level or CAPE subjects.
  • Knowledge of basic accounting principles.
  • A minimum of two (2) years’ relevant working experience in the area of lending.
  • Experience in Business Development in a commercial credit environment will be an asset.
