Job Summary: The successful candidate will be responsible for providing support to the Senior Accountant and Finance Manager by ensuring all financial transactions are checked, properly recorded, and posted in the General ledger before the submission of Financial Statements.

Main Job Duties/Responsibilities:

Reconciliation of General Ledger Accounts:

1.1  To reconcile sub-ledger to general ledger with supporting details for the respective period. This includes the reconciliation of the following accounts; Cash clearing, payroll control; other payables refund.

1.2  Perform branch accounting to ensure income and expenses are correctly allocated to the respective branches

1.3  Perform the following task and enter journal where necessary before submission of the Financial statements;

-          Update the fixed asset schedule monthly with new PPE acquisition (if any) and disposal, compute depreciation charges.

-          Reconcile intercompany balances and transactions monthly

-          Review invoices to determine that all unpaid invoices are properly accounted as payables in the G/L and the necessary schedule(s) updated

-          Properly maintain Prepaid schedule

-          Prepare and maintain investment reconciliations and ensure all interest income relating to same is properly booked in the General Ledger

-          Reconcile General Consumption tax returns to the General Ledger

-          Maintain Rent Schedule Monthly

-          Review Bank reconciliations for stale dated cheques, ensure recon are properly reconciled and Posted to the General Ledger

-          Prepare Difference checklist monthly after schedules and reconciliations have been prepared.

-          Review the General Ledger and provide support for Variance between prior and current year and budgeted for specific accounts communicated each month end.

1.4  Review and enter journal entries in the general ledger and submit to the Finance Manager for posting

1.5  Reviewing the G/L for unposted/ error batches, perform the necessary investigation and make recommendations

1.6  Perform financial analysis on major accounts as required

1.7  Maintain adequate record keeping, inclusive of obtaining sufficient supporting documents for all accounting journal entries raised.

2        Providing support to the Finance Manager and

2.1  Work on a wide range of LASMF’s and other cross functional projects, as assigned by the Finance Manager or required by the company.

2.2  Provide relief support and assuming responsibilities in the absence of the Senior Accountant or any other team member as directed by the Finance Manager or the General Manager

2.3  Provision of reliable financial and accounting information for decision-making on a timely basis, to facilitate the control of operations and to improve the viability and profitability of the company

2.4  To implement and monitor accounting systems in conjunction with management and external auditors to ensure integrity of accounting records, consistency of accounting standards and compliance with statutory requirements

2.5  Support the Finance Manager in the identification and implementation of process improvement initiatives within the department.

3        General:

3.1  To represent the company professionally or socially as the need arises

3.2  To stay abreast of developments in Financial Management through journals, seminars, conferences and professional associations

3.3  To provide training to new team members and guide all team members through existing systems and procedures

3.4  To perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time

3.5  To deputize in the absence of Senior Account and to designate a team member to act on your behalf when not available

3.6  No delays in audit programme due to non-compliance/late preparation of audit schedules and other particulars

3.7   Continuous training of self and staff with each member exposed to a minimum of three days of formal training per year

3.8  Effective supervision of the Accounts department and is responsible for all the functions of the department by continuous supervision of all team members to ensure effectiveness at all times.

3.9  To ensure that all financial transactions are accurately posted to the company’s General Ledger from source documents in a timely manner.

3.10          Any other assigned job-related duties

 

Job Specification:

-                A Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting or currently pursuing ACCA Level II or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.

-          Minimum three (3) years’ experience in professional accounting

-          Ability to work on own initiative

-          Must be flexible and willing to adapt quickly to changes within the work environment

-           Must be able to work under pressure

-          Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite

-    Working knowledge of SAGE Accounting Software

-          Excellent knowledge of statutory filing, financial industry, financial accounting practices and standards in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards would be an asset.
