The successful candidate will be responsible for the preparation of customs documentation to ensure that shipments meet all applicable laws and regulation to facilitate the import and export of goods.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Responsible for preparing and processing Customs and Excise documentation for the efficient clearing of incoming/outgoing cargo.

Responsible for the prompt clearance of cargo at all ports of entry to minimize the occurrence of rent and demurrage on shipments.

Coordinates with ports to ensure required releases are obtained so that containers are promptly discharged

Liaises with appointed Broker to ensure the necessary import and export documentation, licenses and permits are prepared and issued

Responsible for ensuring entries on documentation and invoices corresponds to cargo, and verifies cargo is in good condition before dispatch

Responsible for maintaining proper records of all transactions in accordance with the Corporation’s established Records Management System

Stays abreast of changes in import or export laws or regulations and any other international trade laws, by attending meetings or conferences and conferring with colleagues.

Provides recommendations on transportation options, types of carriers, or shipping routes.

Responsible for maintaining proper records of all transactions in accordance with the Corporation’s established Records Management System.

Perform any other related duties as may be required by Management.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

Education/Training:     

Valid Grade II Customs Licence.

A minimum of five (5) CXC / GCE / CSEC subjects inclusive of English Language, Mathematics.

Possession of a pass in Principles of Accounts would be an asset.

Possession of three (3) A’ level subject would be an asset

 

Experience:                    

A minimum of three (3) years’ customs brokerage experience with respect to the clearance of goods.

 

Certification and Licences:

Valid Trinidad and Tobago Driver’s Permit (Class 3).

Defensive Driving Certification would be an asset.

Certificate of Good Character dated within six (6) months.

 

Required Testing:   

The successful candidate will be required to undergo the following:

A full Medical Examination (inclusive of substance testing) to establish fitness for the position.

 

Physical Requirements:

Working for an extended period of time in a seated position.

Concentrating for long hours in front of a computer screen that may lead to eye strain.

Communicating with other to exchange information.

Required to visit Ports of Entry, Bonded Warehouses and offices of importers and exporters or logistics service companies from time to time.

Will be required to operate in the external environment.

 

Knowledge:                     

Extensive knowledge of shipping and distribution channels.  Customs and Excise Laws and regulations as it relates to ports of entry; working knowledge of ASYCUDA system and freight forwarding. International Trade Laws, International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code relevant to the movement of Hazardous and Dangerous Cargo, International Ship and Port Facility (ISPS) Code, HSE Policies and Procedures and safe working practices.  Microsoft Office Suite.
