REGISTERED NURSE (CARDIOVASCULAR ICU)

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Taking [from theatre] and giving [to HDU] handover of patients
2. Providing direct post operative clinical patient care; administering medications; checking vital signs on CVICU patients. Providing bed care: hygiene and patient positioning
3. Conducting cardiac rehabilitation: physiotherapy, counselling, dietary advice
4. Observing changes in their patients, analyze charts, change bandages, and communicate effectively with doctors and health care professionals
5. Operating heart monitors / operating defibrillators to restart patients' hearts
6. Performing therapeutic and/or diagnostic exams
7. Managing ICU inventory for essential and non-essential drugs, medications and IV fluids
8. Liaising with billing & pharmacy for appropriate work flow process
9. Maintaining notes, medical records, charts.
10. Coordinating care with other healthcare providers, including physicians and surgeons
11. Providing emotional support to patients, families, and visitors. Educating patients about their condition and treatment options

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

KNOWLEDGE:

• Knowledge of general Nursing theory and practice.
• Knowledge of post operative Cardiovascular procedures
• Some knowledge of hospital rules and regulations.
• Some knowledge of house-keeping, personal hygiene and bedside nursing.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 

• Ability to plan, organise and supervise the work of direct reports.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Ability to work as part of a team.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and demonstrate excellent customer service.
• Ability to demonstrate integrity and maintain confidentiality.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:

• Associate Degree in Nursing or Bachelor Degree in Nursing.
• Post graduate specialty: Cardiology, Intensive Care, Post-Operative Care [Cardiac Surgery]
• Must be registered with the Nursing Council of Trinidad and Tobago.
• At least two (2) years’ work experience as a CVICU nurse.

OTHER:

• Must be able to work a shift system, weekends and public holidays.
