Background and context

Acting on the behalf of our client, a leader in the retail sector in Barbados, we are seeking to recruit a suitably qualified and experienced Marketing Manager. The purpose of the role is to develop, implement and execute strategic marketing plans for the organization in order to attract potential customers and retain existing ones, and to ensure that sales budgets across departments are met. The Marketing Manager has responsibility for Brand Management and Corporate Identity.

Duties & Responsibilities Summary

    Marketing

  • Contribute to marketing effectiveness by identifying short- and long-term issues that must be addressed; providing information and commentary pertinent to deliberations; recommending options and courses of action; implementing directives.
  • Obtain market share by developing marketing plans and programs for products/services, directing promotional support.
  • Track and monitor company-wide department sales and targets and ensure that marketing campaigns align with sales budgets.
  • Coordinate, plan and implement marketing campaigns with sales activities; create and publish marketing material in line with marketing plans; utilize key channels e.g. radio, press, social media, digital media, in store POS and advertising; collaborate with suppliers and vendors to effectively implement brand strategies.
  • Maintain research database by identifying and assembling marketing information.
  • Achieve financial objectives by preparing an annual budget; scheduling expenditures; analysing variances; initiating corrective actions.

    Public Relations

  • Conduct reviews of existing Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policies regarding philanthropic activities, environmentally sound practices e.g. “green business”, community outreach and volunteerism.
  • Strategize and advise on needs of current CSR strategy, identify gaps and develop new policies, procedures, or guidelines.
  • Raise the visibility and enhance the reputation of the Group externally through activities such as published articles or speaking engagements.
  • Act as advisor on social and governance issues and their adverse or positive impacts on customer retention and growth. In addition, develop and implement solutions to counteract these effects.

    Digital Operations

  • Plan, coordinate, deliver and optimize the features and campaigns within the Group’s apps, ecommerce sites and all related digital channels.
  • Use analytics, test & learn tools and customer insights to devise news features and digital campaigns with the intent of improving conversion, growing reach, maintaining customer satisfaction and improving other KPIs.
  • Maintain an up-to-date schedule of digital features and activities by continually reviewing their priority based on business value, customer needs and delivery effort.
  • Work closely with our digital agencies to plan new features, improvements and activities with fortnightly cadence to ensure timely delivery.

    People Leadership

  • Maintain effective internal communications to ensure that all relevant Group functions are kept informed of marketing objectives.
  • Complete marketing department operational requirements by scheduling and assigning employees and subcontracted resources; following up on work results.
  • Maintain marketing staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees.

Requirements

  • A degree in Marketing, Communications, or related disciplines and at least 5 years’ experience at management level.
  • Proven experience leading and developing a team is preferred.
  • Proven success in driving new business.
  • Track record of developing innovative marketing strategies, communications and influencing campaigns.
  • Confident and dynamic personality along with excellent communication skills.
  • Intimate understanding of traditional and emerging marketing channels.
  • Ability to manage complex relationships diplomatically and consultatively.
  • Analytical skills to forecast and identify trends and challenges and familiarity with the latest trends, technologies and methodologies in graphic design, web design, production, etc.
  • High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation.
