INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS OFFICER

Applications are invited for the position of INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS OFFICER. The successful candidate is responsible for promoting effective organizational practices among employees and the PAJ.

 

Salary Range: $3,131,632.90 - $3,632,594.49 plus travel allowance

JOB SUMMARY

The incumbent, who is the first point of contact between employees on employee relations issues. The scope of responsibilities involves supporting all industrial relations processes, including disciplinary and grievance, and ensuring that statutory and internal requirements are met.

KEY RESPONIBILITIES

  • Assist management in ensuring good HR administrative governance is developed and instilled in line with company policies and procedures to ensure operational efficiency vis-à-vis HR systems, processes, administration, and daily practice
  • Ensure that employee well-being is addressed by channeling employees’ problems to the applicable employee well-being/welfare programme
  • Assist in the preparation of the Company’s case in matters before the Ministry of Labour
  • Research comparative data from other port/shipping agencies, Government, and the private sector for use in costing and analysis of claims in preparation for contract negotiations
  • Assist management in analyzing employee relations trends, provide periodic reports; research and propose methods to improve problematic trends
  • Keep abreast of changes in legislation related to labour relations and the status of the industrial relations/labour sector
  • Partner with management and employee to ensure the welfare and support of employees is of the highest standards and that there is sufficient equipment, facilities, and materials for employees to undertake their duties
  • Co-ordinate the uniform selection, procurement, and distribution process for the staff
  • Record and investigate internal breaches/grievances and assist with the investigative process for internal complaints of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and other high-risk employment issues; assess/attempt to resolve
  • Represent HR at meetings involving employee relations issues, including discipline

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • BSc. in Human Resource Management, Psychology, or equivalent qualification.
  • Certificate in Industrial Relations
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in HR, 1 of which must be in industrial/employee relations.
  • Training in Counselling/Mediation/Conflict resolution

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & COMPETENCIES

  • Sound knowledge of:

            Industrial and employee relations theory, principles, policies and practices, and the legislative framework within which industrial relations operates

            Local labour laws

            Government’s procurement policy and procedure

            Group and other benefits organisation-wide

            All aspects of employee lifecycle from recruitment to exit

  • Excellent customer service skills with the ability to build appropriate professional, friendly and accessible relationships with all employees
  • Excellent written, verbal communication and presentation skills; active listening skills
  • Excellent organisation, time management and administrative skills, with attention to detail
  • Ability to use logic and analysis to identify the strengths and weaknesses of different approaches to resolving employee relations issues
  • Proven ability to effectively deal with conflict and non-conflict situations in a rational and constructive manner while being assertive
  • Highly flexible and adaptable to organisational and operational change
  • High degree of confidentiality, empathy and integrity required
