VACANCY

Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons to fill the following position at the New Arima General Hospital:

DIETITIAN

The incumbent will be responsible for providing optimum nutrition care for patients with various medical conditions through nutrition counselling and therapy and efficient meal service.

 Main Responsibilities:

• Interacts with patients/clients to assesses their nutritional status.
• Analyses nutrition assessment data of patients/clients.
• Develops and implements individualised nutrition care plans and integrate them into the total medical/healthcare regime based on nutrition analysis.
• Establishes meal patterns for calculated diets and monitor their usage and effectiveness.
• Provides personal nutrition counselling for patients and their families/caregivers.
• Documents nutrition-related data and nutrition care plans in the patient’s medical records.
• Evaluates meal services and meal rounds reports submitted by the Technicians and Assistants, and initiate any necessary follow-up action.
• Assists the Manager in coordinating medical nutrition therapy with foodservice.
• Designs and develop nutrition education materials regarding various health conditions for patients, such as brochures and charts.
• Provides nutrition care for all Outpatient Clinics, such as the Cardiology Clinic, Nephrology Clinic, Diabetic Clinic, Dental Clinic, Haemodialysis Unit, etc.
• Develops and implement nutrition education programmes for clients/patients during and subsequent to hospitalisation.
• Confers with the medical/health team on patient needs and nutrition-related health status.
• Refers patients to other departments/community services for continuity of nutritional care.
• Provides care for patients/clients from external health organisations, such as the National Organ Transplant Unit of Trinidad and Tobago and the Caribbean Heart Care Medcorp Limited.
• Improves knowledge and strengthen competence through continuing education activities.
• Ensures that nutritional supplements and formula Stores are maintained and updated constantly.
• Trains, supervises and appraises university dietetic interns.
• Trains, supervises and appraises Dietetic Technicians and Assistants.
• Maintains quality assurance procedures.

Minimum Qualifications, Training and Experience:

• Bachelor degree in Human Ecology (specialising in Nutrition and Dietetics).
• Postgraduate Diploma in Institutional and Community Nutrition and Dietetics (Year-long Internship Programme).
• Registered Dietitian with the Nutritionists and Dietitians Board of Trinidad and Tobago, in accordance with the Council of Professions related to Medicine.
• Minimum of one year experience in a food service and clinical environment, particularly in a hospital setting

* Certificates acquired at foreign universities MUST be supported by certified transcripts as well as evidence that the completed programme is accredited in Trinidad and Tobago
