COMMERCIAL UNDERWRITER
This position reports to the Branch Manager
THE OPPORTUNITY, HIGHLIGHTS OF THE ROLE:
- Review and monitor each line of business and provide analysis of trends and variances.
- Monitor the utilization of Property aggregates monthly
- Ensure adherence to Reinsurance Treaty Guidelines
- Management of the branch property average rate
- Assist with technical underwriting/product training
- Management of Local Facultative Reinsurance portfolio
- Management of all Fronting Policy Arrangements/Relationships
- Provide broker slip quotation within service standards
- Assist with annual audits as needed
- Ensure delivery of renewal notices to Brokers and Direct Clients by agreed deadlines.
- Review and sign policies and endorsements
- Authorize transactions in the company core system
- Responsible for the proactive management of the Renewal Process and review of receivables.
- Respect the Underwriting Delegation of Authority in daily operations.
- Communicate by correspondence or in person with clients and brokers to obtain further information, quote rates, present proposals, explain company underwriting policies and service existing accounts.
- Underwrite commercial and/or personal lines risks in accordance with Company and Industry Standards.
- Prepare quotations for clients/brokers and answer questions from brokers, policyholders, or prospective clients.
- Develop and maintain professional, productive relationships with clients and brokers.
- Develop new profitable business opportunities via Brokers, Direct Clients and other sources.
- Perform payment transactions when required.
- Pro-actively identify challenges related to our internal processes and make suggestions for improvement.
- Establish and maintain excellent working relationships with internal and external customers.
- Timely preparation of all documentation associated with sale of a new policy or the update of an existing policy or the cancellation of an existing policy
Qualifications and Competencies:
- ACII, CIP or equivalent is a must
- Asset: Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Management or a related discipline
- Minimum of 5 years of Underwriting experience.
- Must have access to a working vehicle
- Excellent skills and knowledge in the use of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Asset: Experience in Claims and experience in a Leadership role.
- Display strong customer service and interpersonal skills along with good time management and organisational skills.
- Demonstrate the ability to respond professionally and timely to enquiries.
- Demonstrate confidentiality.
