Our client, Tropikist Beach Hotel & Resort Limited, is seeking to fill the position of Accountant. This position is based at Tropikist’s Administrative Office in Chaguanas, Trinidad. The Accountant will be required to travel to the hotel in Tobago periodically as needed.
JOB SUMMARY
The Accountant is responsible for financial reporting, statutory payables, conducting preliminary financial analyses to guide decision-making, supervision of the day-to-day activities of the department to ensure accuracy and maintain integrity of the accounting records.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Control the payroll and reconciling bank statements
- Prepares monthly financial reports, with supporting analyses where appropriate.Assist in preparing budgets, forecasts, and business planning including project room revenue
- Establish and oversee compliance with internal controls
- Reconciles all statutory payables (PAYE, NIS, Health Surcharge, Corporation Tax, VAT, etc.) monthly.
- Prepares and submits the VAT Return by the stipulated deadline.
- Chase late payments, report bad debts, and monitor cash flowMaintain accurate and current AP and AR records
- Process cash disbursement and cash receipts
- Perform month-end close reconciliation and financial analysis
- Substantiate financial transactions by auditing documents
- Assists in the preparation of audit schedules and deals with auditors’ requests for information in a timely manner.Review daily cash balance and maintain cash flow projections
- Prepare a monthly bank reconciliation for all company account
- Review vendor invoices and monthly statements to ensure all expenses are processed in the AP system
- Comply with financial policies and regulations
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- At Minimum: Level II of ACCA
- Minimum of five (5) years’ accounting experience in a similar capacity
- Knowledge of and experience working with Quickbooks
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Working knowledge of local financial laws and regulations
- Excellent knowledge of financial and accounting standards and practices
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills
- Able to interact effectively with all levels of management and vendors
