Hotel Landscaping Manager (BVI)

 

Overview:

 

Our client is based in the beautiful British Virgin Islands with a reputation for offering the finest in luxury bespoke vacations. Due to growth, they are urgently seeking a proven Landscaping Manager to join the team. This role is open to all CARICOM state residents and comes with a full relocation package, accommodation and food/ travel allowance.

  

Minimum Experience Requirements: 

  • 5+ years of crew management in landscape and grounds maintenance, ideally at a premium hotel or golf course.

 

  • Strong computer skills using Microsoft Word and Excel.

 

  • Ability to manage and motivate a staff of 10+ individuals.

 

  • Excellent administrative, interpersonal, leadership, multi-tasking, follow-up, and communication skills.

 

  • Ability to interface with all levels of personnel both internally and outside the company.

 

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers and the public.

 

  • The ability to work in extreme weather.

 

  • Bilingual / Spanish English a plus

 

 

Responsible for:                                    

 

Overall maintenance of grounds and landscaping on the resort. This includes regular common area & estate maintenance, small landscaping improvement projects, general upkeep of roadsides and surfaces, green waste management.

 

Key Objectives: This includes but is not limited to:

 

  • Grounds management: Manage the existing The resort Grounds Crew.
  • Grounds maintenance: Prepare, implement, and oversee the grounds maintenance & landscaping improvement programs for the island including Homeowner estates.
  • Purchase and manage appropriate stock levels.
  • Administration of Grounds team.
  • Communications with project consultants and contractors.
  • Manage green waste cycle in line with company objectives.
  • Support and assist all Island Departments and Operations with any reasonable tasks that might be required.
  • Manage small, approved Landscaping projects.

 

 

 

 

 

Day to Day Activities:

 

  • Attend the daily department meetings, provide updates and be a channel of communication between the teams. Create monthly communication and cost reports for Estates and Common Areas.

 

  • Manage and develop the existing Grounds team, including running daily morning meetings, overseeing production of weekly Grounds work schedule, and managing staff schedules (including the holiday tracker). Carry out weekly documented one-on-one meeting with your supervisors.

 

  • Ensure that attendance tracking and scheduling of Grounds team and contractors are recorded in line with company policies.
  • Care and maintenance of The resort and Homeowners Villas grounds; including agreeing and scheduling comprehensive maintenance works, ordering replacement plants, products and equipment as required (including estimating costs and negotiating prices).

 

  • Update,  educate  and  train  the  Grounds  team  on  the  Grounds  Policies  and  Standard Operating Procedures.

 

  • Ensure the Grounds team is trained on safety procedures and run regular training sessions, for example, for operation of large equipment or where hazardous materials are used, and ensure proper licensing is in place and certification is valid.

 

  • To ensure that safety and risk management practices are followed in the performance of all work.

 

  • In the event that external consultants or contractors are commissioned: provide advice and negotiate price. Once contract has been assigned: oversee the maintenance contractors, including annual review of contracts and potential cost savings and performance evaluation. Provide regular updates on project progress to key communications team.

 

  • Working together with partner resort Grounds team to ensure cost savings and efficiencies are found where possible; including team training, expense on plants and equipment and use of external contractors.

 

  • Manage Grounds budget, including the review of account coding and preapproval of all Grounds related invoices, and reporting to Finance team where required on large expenditure.

 

  • Maintain the existing irrigation system and set up new irrigation where required. Implement adequate measures to ensure the economical use of water, including usage and requirement records are maintained and updated.

 

  • Continuous review of the day-to-day operational processes and procedures.

 

  • Careful maintenance of all Grounds equipment including vehicles

 

  • Monthly inventory of Grounds products and equipment. Keep par stocks at nominal levels.

 

  • Develop and maintain “island plants for consumption strategy”

 

General Duties:

 

  • Managing team to move items on property as required.

 

  • Abide and follow all company policies and procedures and ensure all statutory requirements are understood and followed.

 

  • Respond to emergencies including fire and accident as outlined in training sessions and departmental procedures.

 

  • Assist the Islands’ operations in preparation for Hurricanes.

 

  • Have a clear working knowledge of the Islands’ policies; operate in compliance with these policies and ensure staff awareness of all relevant policies.

 

  • Attend meetings as required and to support the communication process both on and off Island.
