The incumbents will be responsible for coordinating and executing HSE related activities to ensure compliance with health, environment and Occupational Safety & Health (OSH) Act standards and regulations.

We are seeking to recruit a suitable candidates for the following position in the HSE Department:

HSE ASSISTANT

Major Responsibilities & Accountabilities:   

Compliance/Regulatory Monitoring

  • Work closely with the HSE Manager to conduct comprehensive investigations for all accidents and incidents in accordance with HSE policies and procedures and the update of all databases.
  • Coordinate the successful and proactive completion of all legal requirements including food badges and all other HSE related requirements
  • Work closely with the HSE Manager to ensure the successful institutionalization and effectiveness of the HSE Committee
  • Coordinate Emergency drills and update of current ERP plans and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance to ASB Covid-19 protocols including contact tracing and communication to all stakeholders 
  • Conduct PPE inspections on all lifting apparatus critical to Warehouse Operations
  • Ensure yearly regulatory inspections on all lifting equipment critical to Warehouse Operations
  • Ensure the Trade Marketing safety compliance matrix is managed and updated as necessary
  • Provide oversight on first aid provisions ensuring stock and availability according to HSE policies and procedures

Risk Management

  • Ensure applicable PPE is purchased and updated as required, and used in accordance with HSE Policies and Procedures and within budget
  • Provide oversight on all onsite projects, coordinate JHA and Risk Assessments as per procedure
  • Ensure the fire suppression systems checks are conducted as per HSE procedures
  • Ensure environmental monitoring with respect to Warehouse Operations inclusive of refuse disposal and recycling
  • Coordinate the successful and proactive completion of all legal requirements including Fire Certification and all other HSE related requirements
  • Ensure Rack Inspections of the Warehouse Department is conducted as scheduled and all non-compliance issues are recorded and addressed
  • Work closely with the HSE Manager to conduct comprehensive investigations for all property and product damages in accordance with HSE policies and procedures, ensuring all reports are submitted to the HSE Manager within required deadlines
  • Coordinate training sessions either in house or externally in accordance with the approved Training Plan
  • Maintain the Health Questionnaire database in accordance to established procedures

Knowledge & Experience:

  • An Associate Degree in Safety or related field
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Safety & Health Act
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ relevant experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications

  • Able to adhere to deadlines and complete projects independently
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate with all levels of staff in the organization
