JOB TITLE:                            Senior District Surveyor

LOCATION:                        Providenciales but at the discretion of the TCI Public

Service the position may be relocated to another part of

TCI.

JOB SUMMARY:

This job is technical in nature and requires the post holder to be responsible for the execution of land surveying assignments within the assigned District; which includes Providenciales, West Caicos and neighboring Cays. The post holder will be required to work with minimum supervision, perform difficult assignments in the analysis of parcel data, land and geodetic survey computations.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for all surveying and related matters within a District in the Family Islands of the Turks and Caicos Islands.
  • Execution of cadastral surveys including the re-establishment of boundaries in accordance with the Land Survey Ordinance.
  • Assist with the checking of cadastral files submitted for Registration and to ensure the appropriate checking fees are paid.
  • Prepares survey files (J-Files) for approved Crown land surveys recordation.
  • Carry out control surveys for the purpose of establishing horizontal and vertical survey controls, as part of National Control Networks.
  • Conduct topographic and engineering surveys, when required, and to produce longitudinal profiles and cross-sections from such survey data.
  • Supervision of Geomatics Technician and or Survey Field Assistant(s) in undertaking land surveying related assignments.
  • Assist in resolving land / boundary related problems in the assigned District.
  • Investigate and make full reports on disputes involving land boundaries to the Director of Survey and Mapping.
  • Independently researches and prepare reports on the extent of land ownership for land surveyors, attorneys and the general public.
  • Analyze legal descriptions in title documents to produce plans showing right-of-ways, property lines and easement locations using computer aided drafting / design and survey software.
  • Maintains a record of maps and site plans sold to the public within the District.
  • Assist in the inspection of Crown Land parcels and the provision of written reports on the status of such land parcel.
  • Prepare and submit a fortnightly report of all work done within the District.
  • Assist with the training and upgrading of skills and techniques of subordinates, including Geomatics Technicians and Survey Field Assistants.
  • Maintains an Inventory of all stores and survey equipment kept at the District Office, under your control.
  • Maintain a written record of the times worked by daily or weekly paid survey field staff.
  • Adhere to all Public Service codes, rules and regulations.
  • Carry out other related tasks as assigned by a supervisory officer.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

Essential:

  •  A Bachelor of Science Degree in Land Surveying and Geographic Information Sciences from a recognized institution

 

Desirable:

  • A Sworn / Commissioned / Licensed / Authorized Land Surveyors’ Certificate by a recognized

     national surveying authority.

         

Experience:

  • The position requires a minimum of five (5) years’ experience as a Land Surveyor to acquire the necessary competencies to respond effectively to the challenges of this post. However, where a job holder possesses a Degree in Land Surveying Sciences or related field, the position requires a minimum of three (3) years on the job experience to acquire the necessary competencies to respond effectively to the challenges of the job.

 

Salary: Grade 7.1 - $41,205.00 per annum plus allowances

 

For persons recruited outside of the Turks & Caicos Islands a two-year extendable contract is offered. Other benefits in addition to basic salary include a Housing Allowance, End-of contract gratuity of 10%, return passages for a family of up to two children under the age of 18 years, freight cost and duty exemption on personal effects imported within six months of the appointment.
