The manufacturing maintenance technician performs regular preventive maintenance on equipment used in a tissue manufacturing operation.

Key Duties

  • Performs regular preventive maintenance on equipment used in tissue paper manufacturing process to ensure the successful execution of production activities.
  • Makes use of equipment blueprints to diagnose manufacturing equipment problems and taking necessary actions to rectify them.
  • Plays a key role in the production chain since core production activities are performed with heavy equipment.
  • Ensures that the company’s manufacturing process is always running smoothly, must be available to ensure that the machines for production are in good condition.
  • Carrying out general maintenance on machines, including cleaning, greasing, and servicing of the manufacturing equipment.
  • Responsible for ensuring factory workers and other users of tools used in manufacturing adhere to manufacturers’ guidelines on equipment. Such adherence is necessary to enable the tools to function to their maximum capacity.
  • May be required to lend support in the repair and maintenance of parent or sister companies’ machinery and equipment.

Education

Higher National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering

Experience

1-2 years equivalent experience

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Engineering and Technology — Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.
  • Physics — Knowledge and prediction of physical principles, laws, their interrelationships, and applications to understanding mechanical and electrical processes.
  • Operation Monitoring — Watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.
  • Critical Thinking — Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Deductive Reasoning — The ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.
