Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Chief Accountant, the incumbent is responsible for the preparation of the Accounts of the organization and for the timely submission of accurate and complete monthly and annual financial statements within generally accepted accounting practices and established organizational guidelines.

 

Salary

Basic Salary starting at $1,882,060.00 per annum


Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepares the Accounts of the organization according to requisite accounting standard and guidelines.
  • Prepares and submits financial statements on a monthly basis and as otherwise prescribed.
  • Prepares monthly expenditure variance report for each account.
  • Prepares journal entries.
  • Reconciles Fixed Assets listing/register maintained by the Facilities Department to the general ledger balance.
  • Ensures that monthly depreciation charges are calculated.
  • Ensures the accuracy and correctness of the system of coding of accounts.
  • Authenticates cheques; reconciles subvention and expenditure.
  • Verifies all payments.
  • Checks and signs off daily collection and lodgement ensuring they are properly accounted for and lodged to appropriate accounts.
  • Verifies and posts the Accounts Receivable Ledger and the Accounts Payable Ledger to the General Ledger.
  • Prepares audit schedules; provides information to internal and external auditors as requested.
  • Checks and files GCT remittances.
  • Checks and verifies all vouchers presented for payment.

 

Management/Administrative Responsibilities

  • Reviews and recommends changes in procedures to improve efficiency in the Department/Division.
  • Attends meetings on behalf of the Finance and Accounts Branch and/or the organization as directed.
  • Keeps abreast of trends and changes in accounting and finance and recommends their adoption/application where appropriate to increase the effectiveness and productivity of the Department/Division
  • Ensures activities are carried out within established regulations.
  • Prepares and submits reports as requested.

 

Required Competencies:

  • Sound knowledge of financial and accounting principles and practices including the FAA Act, Public Bodies legislation
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Comprehensive knowledge of computer applications and accounting software
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision
  • Good analytical and problem solving skills.

 

Minimum Education & Experience:

  • First Degree in Accounting or Management from a recognized tertiary institution or ACCA Level 2
  • A minimum of three (3) years post-graduation experience in accounting
