Job Description

 

We are looking for a highly capable payroll accountant to manage our payroll processes and assist our existing Payroll Manager. In this role, your duties will include ensuring accurate accounting of salary payments, benefit and other deductions, overtime earnings, sick and vacation time, updating employee hiring or termination information, as well as calculating final remuneration totals.    

To ensure success as a payroll accountant, you should demonstrate knowledge of applicable tax laws and have experience in a similar role. As our process are manual, Expert Level Excel knowledge is a must! A first-class payroll accountant will be detail-oriented and someone who can accurately and timely process the aforementioned calculations.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

 Preparing and submitting fortnightly Payrolls.

  • Posting of Payroll Journals, updating the Hours, Vacation Pay, Sick Pay, Holiday Pay, Overtime Pay, Commissions and Bonuses, Redundancy Pay, Notice Pay, and Unused Vacation payouts.
  • Coordinating with Team Managers to get the timely response for Payroll related information.
  • Ensuring that all reconciliations related to Payroll, Statutory deductions and employees payables are handled as required.
  • Ensuring the Payroll Calculation register is correct with all payroll entries, rates per hour, Salary for Salaried employees and taxes are applied correctly along with the Hours and Commissions payments submitted.
  • Ensuring all payrolls are completed and submitted for approval on time.
  • Responsible for monitoring and accruals of Sick Leaves for all the employees as per Jamaican Labor Law as well as monitoring and notifying the employees of depletion of Sick days as per appointment year.
  • Ensuring that the Salary Deductions register is maintained for all employees and salary deductions are remitted for employees on time.
  • Ensure submission of monthly statutory returns as well as statutory payments are made on time.
  • Assisting in getting the Tax Compliance Certificate (TCC) renewed on half yearly basis. Should be able to maintain the proper records for tax payments and acquiring clearance letters from NHT, NIS and Heart for the renewal of the TCC.

 Requirements:

  •  Associate Degree in Business, AAT or CAT Certification or NVQJ Level 3 or 4 in Accounting
  • Minimum of 3 years work experience as Payroll Coordinator, Accountant or similar role.
  • Computer Proficiency and Expert Level Knowledge of MS Office Suite, particularly Excel
  • Extensive experience in preparing ledger entries and processing payments.
  • In-depth knowledge of applicable tax laws.
  • Experience in preparing payroll and tax reports, as well as answering payroll inquiries.
  • Sound knowledge of Local Jamaican Labour Laws a plus
  • Excellent Organizational Skills, with an ability to prioritize important projects
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently, problem-solve and prioritize tasks.
  • Must have the ability to effectively handle multiple tasks, duties, responsibilities, and the management of time while meeting deadlines.
