Job Summary
The position of General Ledger Accountant, reports to the Financial Controller. The incumbent is expected to perform general accounting functions to support the preparation of financial statements. The General Ledger Accountant is generally accountable for the co-ordination and preparation of monthly financial statements, management reports and supporting accounting records in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles. In addition, the position provides assistance in the maintenance and use of the Oracle Financials accounting package for the provision of computerized financial reports and supporting records. In the discharge of these duties, the position must maintain strong internal controls, ensure adherence to operating policies and ensure integrity of financial data. These activities are expected to be delivered safely, cost-effectively, and reliably and must be conducted in a manner that consistently adds value to Phoenix Park’s overall business process. The position is also required to provide accounting support to the group of companies, its subsidiaries and new business ventures as required.
Dimensions
The recording, categorizing, and reporting on financial transactions are critical aspects of the financial reporting and management decision-making dimensions of PPTTEH's business. The position of General Ledger Accountant provides a key professional support service in the Finance function at PPTTEH and processes all of financial transactions, the preparation of financial statements to reflect such transactions and the recording of these transactions in a manner that conforms to the requirements of the accounting discipline.
The incumbent also provides assistance to the Financial Accountant in the preparation for external audits and updating of procedures to ensure compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards. The General Ledger Accountant is charged with the responsibility of maintaining adequate internal controls in Oracle Financials. The position is constrained by demands for accuracy, timeliness and consistency with prevailing accounting policies and must affect its duties and responsibilities in a manner that assures the integrity of the financial data, management information and financial reports which it provides to PPTTEH.
The position interfaces internally with all staff and externally with parties to the shareholder and auditors. The position of General Ledger Accountant has access to technical and supervisory guidance and direction from the Financial Accountant, has no direct reports, follows clearly prescribed accounting procedures, rules, regulations, and internal controls, and is bounded by clear performance expectations.

Nature & Scope
The position of General Ledger Accountant essentially coordinates and prepares the monthly financial statements, management reports and supporting records while maintaining strong internal controls, adherence to operating policies and integrity of financial data. The position prepares the month-end and year-end roll-up function in Oracle Financials; prepares General Ledger accounts reconciliations; assists in the review, co-ordinating and updating of accounting policies; co- ordinates the annual and interim audits for PPTTEH.
