Instructional Designer (GMG/EO1) Curriculum Department
JOB PURPOSE
The Instructional Designer will work collaboratively with members of the Information Technology Department of the CCCJ, faculty and leadership of the colleges on appropriate and effective integration of instructional technology into teaching and learning.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Working with subject matter experts to design programmes.
- Developing courses/programmes for online delivery.
- Creating long-term plans for particular areas that will identify, develop and implement services in support of innovative approaches to teaching using the latest developments in computer-assisted instructional design.
- Supporting and advising faculty on the effective and appropriate use of technology for teaching and learning.
- Developing documentation and training materials in various formats to support best practices of instructional technologies and publishing technology training regarding, for example, How-to tutorials for students regarding email, CCCJ’s learning management system, lecture capture and technology policies.
- Consulting with faculty and staff in other departments on identification and implementation of appropriate technology and instructional strategies to meet student learning outcomes.
- Providing training for faculty in the use of the current learning management system.
- Staying abreast of new technologies and strategies related to implementation of instructional technologies and providing analysis and recommendations for improvement.
- Providing technical support with the ability to assist with maintaining, installing and troubleshooting instructional hardware and software.
- Testing and implementing multimedia and training faculty in their use.
- Attending meetings that might include representatives of colleges to discuss adverse and advantageous trends.
- Using analytics to advise on learning technologies to review best use as in what content is being viewed, how it is obtained, peak views or time of views and what browser is being used.
MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- A Master in Education and specialised training in educational/instructional technology from a recognised institution
- Three (3) years’ teaching experience using the distance modality
- Moderate experience working with learning management systems, technology workshop development, integrating technology into teaching in an educational setting or other related work experience
- Experience with web-based course management and content management systems
- Project management experience would be an assist
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Highly organised with the ability to stay in the detail
- Resourceful to work effectively with multiple businesses and clients
- Ability to translate compliance and technical requirements into relevant and understandable terms
- Knowledge of current instructional theories for collaborative learning with webbased tools
- Knowledge of core editing software
- Live streaming expertise
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Good time management skills
- Innovative and strategic
- Knowledge of learning management systems such as Moodle
- High energy level and comfortable performing multifaceted projects in conjunction with day-to-day activities
- Good interpersonal skills
- Display initiative and accept responsibility for assigned duties under minimal supervision
SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF THE JOB
- A number of deadlines which might cause significant stress.
- Must deal with a wide variety of people on various issues.
AUTHORITY
- Conduct training in distance education delivery methodologies.
REMUNERATION
Salary scale: $2 823 481.00 - $3 356, 232.00 per annum.
