Job Summary

The Mechanical Superintendent oversees, administers and implements mechanical strategies, policies and programs, as well as directs and supervises personnel, to achieve departmental performance targets in accordance with company objectives and industry standards.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:                                                              

 Oversees and directs the planning and execution of mechanical programs and strategies in accordance with department objectives.

  • Oversees, directs and reviews planning and execution for activities, projects, outages and turnarounds, to ensure the efficient control of activities to achieve department cost, schedule and quality targets.
  • Ensures systems are developed and maintained to record accurate and updated maintenance information, to achieve an efficient and reliable source of historical and analytical data.  This includes equipment records, reports, trends and analysis.
  • Ensures proper planning/developing and execution of all crane lifts, but most importantly heavy and critical crane lifts.
  • Ensures the prudent and cost-effective use of materials, services or other resources to ensure wastage and overages are minimized or eliminated.

 Develops, implements and administers engineering programs and strategies, to achieve equipment reliability and availability objectives for the Department.

  • Provides guidance and expert technical support and engineering solutions development, for plant and equipment related/efficiency problems, including equipment overhaul and repair, to improve reliability and availability.
  • Manages and evaluates engineering programs and equipment audits and oversees capital project budget forecast, to effectively achieve department objectives.

 Oversees and directs activities for turnarounds, outages and abnormal situations to achieve department and Company objectives

  • Oversees and directs all aspects of maintenance or inspection activities, including contractor management, ensuring they are properly planned, developed and implemented for plant turnarounds and outages to achieve cost, schedule and quality targets.
  • Oversees and monitors the execution of turnaround/outage jobs for entire day/night shifts, to ensure that general HSE&Q, schedule, cost and specification targets are met.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Undergraduate degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering.
  • Minimum of fifteen (15) years’ experience in engineering design or the Construction field.
  • Minimum of three (3) years in a supervisory position.
  • Certified Project Management Professional (PMP) would be an asset.

 Technical Skills/Knowledge

  • Extensive knowledge of process plant operations, maintenance, design and project management in the petrochemical industry.
  • Knowledgeable in new plant design, construction and maintenance.
  • Knowledgeable in project execution.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite especially MS Word and MS Excel.
  • Working knowledge of an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software.
  • Effective verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
  • Acute troubleshooting, problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment to make quick, accurate and safe decision in response to emergencies and abnormal situations.
