JOB PURPOSE

The Research Officer is responsible for managing the research, assessment, evaluation, review and forecasting processes related to problems in areas such curriculum development and review, examinations and assessment, certification and employment

and applying these findings and studies to improve content, sequence and outcomes of the teaching/learning process.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • • Developing and implementing a comprehensive research agenda for the Council.
  • • Compiling comprehensive study reports with clear findings and recommendations.
  • • Sharing findings of research and studies to improve content, sequence and outcomes of the teaching/learning process.
  • • Identifying research priorities for CCCJ and member colleges in general.
  • • Implementing the research agenda and ensuring smooth coordination with other stakeholders such as the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information, other bodies of higher education, member colleges and research institutions.
  • • Providing relevant, timely and high-quality briefs to inform policy direction and planning.
  • • Developing, updating and maintaining a comprehensive research profile/database of all studies conducted on the community college sector in Jamaica and related areas.
  • • Establishing and maintaining a portal to update the research profile/database on a regular basis.
  • • Managing quality assurance and dissemination of research by CCCJ on higher education and the community college sector.
  • • Undertaking strategic analyses of workforce needs and issues and making recommendations that can inform strategic action required to meet those needs of the Council and the community college sector.
  • • Monitoring and evaluating implementation of CCCJ policies as well as other policies of higher education through tracking of specific performance indicators and compiling comprehensive reports on the state of education at the community college level in Jamaica.
  • • Scanning the political, economic, social, technological and environmental landscape, both locally and internationally, for emerging trends and analyses of implications on research and development to ensure effective response from the higher education sector.
  • • Performing any other job-related duty assigned by the Executive Director.

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • A bachelor’s degree in education or the social sciences, preferably with a major in research methods or equivalent qualification. 
  • A master’s degree in policy research related areas from a recognised tertiary institution would be an asset.
  • Five (5) years’ related work experience in education at the tertiary level

SPECIAL CONDITION OF THE JOB

  • Long hours of sitting and using office equipment.

REMUNERATION

Salary scale: $1 601 259.00 - $1 903 394 per annum.
