VACANCY
Applications are invited for suitably qualified persons to fill the following position at the North-Central Regional Health Authority (NCRHA).
VETERINARIAN
The incumbent will be responsible for the implementation of programmes and the delivery of a range of veterinary services at the Veterinary Hospital.
Main Responsibilities:
- Consult with clients of the Veterinary Hospital.
- Evaluate cases, provide diagnoses and implement medical care as best as can be provided.
- Collect samples for diagnoses, e.g. whole blood, serum, fine needle tissue aspirate, skin scraping, stool, urine, incisional biopsy, punch biopsy, sterile technique swab of affected areas, etc.
- Formulate and implement treatment plans for patients, be it during outpatient or inpatient consultation.
- Make daily assessments of all in-patient cases.
- Do surgeries as required for cases presented to the hospital.
- Provide follow-up on diagnostic tests performed, i.e. informing clients and providing treatment plans in light of new results.
- Counsel and educate clients.
- Provide follow-up on out-patient cases.
- Rehabilitate orthopaedic cases, especially post surgery.
- Source pharmaceuticals which cannot be provided or sourced by the Stores Clerk or Pharmacy Stores.
- Teach clinical skills to veterinary students.
- Keep and update records and maintain daily case notes.
- Administer anaesthesia for surgeries, diagnostic tests or minor procedures, e.g. X-rays, biopsies, bronchoscopy, otoscopy, colonoscopy, rhinoscopy, etc
- Complete anaesthetic forms for patients’ anaesthetic records.
- Conduct X-ray examiniations.
- Administer specific pharmaceuticals of high risk, e.g. chemotherapeutic drugs.
- Ensure the delivery of samples to the University of the West Indies’s Hematology, Necropsy and Microbiology Laboratory’s, as well as to the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory.
- Supervise students during procedures, e.g. surgical, medical therapy, diagnostics and anaethesia.
- Work up private veterinary referral cases and carry out procedures requested by referring veterinarians or continue treatment of cases which they can no longer treat or require help with.
- Make up Charge Sheets for every case treated, which will be used by the Cashier for invoicing.
- Coordinate the weekend treatment of hospitalized cases.
- Identify areas where the Veterinary Hospital can be improved; and formulate and implement such plans.
Minimum Qualifications, Training and Experience:
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM)
- Registration with the Medical Board of Trinidad and Tobago
- One (1) to two (2) years of clinical experience in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery
* Certificates acquired at foreign universities MUST be supported by certified transcripts as well as evidence that the completed programme is accredited in Trinidad and Tobago.
