The Pharmacist compounds and dispenses prescribed medications, drugs and other pharmaceuticals. All activities must conform to organizational guidelines and standards and to all legal requirements.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities: -
1. Reviews prescriptions issued to assure accuracy and counsels customers on drug
interactions, side effects, dosage and storage of pharmaceuticals
2. Determines formulae and ingredients needed compounds medications, using standard
formulae and processes such as weighing, measuring and mixing ingredients
3. Directs Pharmacy Technicians engaged in mixing, packaging and labelling
pharmaceuticals
4. Maintains established procedures concerning quality assurance, security of controlled
substances and disposal of hazardous waste drugs
5. Maintains pharmacy database and enters data such as patient name, prescribed
medication and cost
6. Assist the Manager/ supervisor in coverage when needed
7. Performs related work as directed by the appropriate Authority
8. Instructs reporting staff on matters pertaining to pharmacy
9. Advises Pharmacy Manager of expired drugs and makes recommendations for disposal
