The Well Site Geologist (WSG) will be responsible for the execution of all relevant well site geology operations.

NES Fircroft will embark on a drilling campaign in the East Coast Marine Area in 2021. The successful candidates will work in an integrated team providing support for the development drilling operations. The Well Site Geologist (WSG) will be responsible for the execution of all relevant well site geology operations. The successful candidates will be initially, part of a 2-person crew providing 24hr coverage on a rotation to be determined. The WSG’s will be reporting to the Subsurface coordinator onshore.

The WSG will follow NES Fircroft’s HSSE protocols while offshore and travelling to/from the well site. The WSG will maintain constant communication with the Drilling Supervisors (DSV’s) at the well site, the Trinidad Based project Delivery team supporting the Venture, the Operations Geologists and Operations Petrophysicists (PP) regarding all aspects of the subsurface observed during drilling. The WSG will be working with the MWD/LWD and Mud Logging, and Wireline Crews.

One of the primary roles will be to maintain a professional working relationship with the mud loggers, LWD crew, Wireline Crew and Fircroft’s DSV’s (good communication on a need-to-know basis).

The WSG will provide an independent geological assessment and working with Ops PP on the logs analysis of formation evaluation/well data. The WSG will need to ensure that the mud logging crew collects samples at appropriate specified intervals and confirm/validate through independent assessment that the sample descriptions (lithology & HC’s) reflect what is being drilled by the bit as per the logging prognosis agreed with the vendors. The WSG will also need to be aware of the current borehole conditions (rate of penetration, mud weight, torque, overpull, mud additives, evidence of geopressure/well bore stability issues, time to bottoms up, etc.) and will need to have full awareness of real-time drilling parameters in mud logging unit.  The WSG will work closely with vendor and NES Fircroft’s pore pressure team onshore to help assess the pore pressure 24/7.

In addition, the WSG will provide support, as needed, to confirm casing points and TD depth. The WSG will support Ops PPs with witnessing and QA/QC of LWD, special data acquisition and wireline logging operations.

The WSG will be responsible liaising and providing all relevant information (including Daily Geological Reports and Logs) to the onsite NES Fircroft DSV’s and the Operations Geologist in Trinidad. The WSG will also compile a well site lithology log, to Fircroft standards, and maintain a well site file of data, reports, logs etc. The WSG will also work closely with the Trinidad-based Petrophysicist regarding LWD data and wireline data.

The Wellsite will adhere to the confidentiality protocol for Exploration wells as defined by NES Fircroft.

Specific deliverables as Well Site Geologist include:

  • Acting as the well site focal point for all geological data acquisition and assist with petrophysical data acquisition.
  • QA-QC/supervise cuttings description compiled by mud loggers, compile a well site lithology strip log, including gas/oil show characterization (including stain, odor, fluorescence, cut and cut fluorescence), pore pressure prediction, Mud Weight, Weight On Bit, torque, mud additives, LWD services, etc.
  • QA/QC and provide an independent assessment of the mud logging service.
  • Ensure mud samples, cuttings and samples are packaged and labelled.
  • Assist with confirmation of casing points and TD as per program.
  • Coordinate communication protocol with NES Fircroft Drilling Superintendent and DSV’s for relevant operations (e.g. ordering “circulation of bottoms up” at key horizons, provide geological advice as defined by well engineering) and immediately relay info to Operation Geologist in Trinidad.
  • Witnessing of wireline runs, QA/QC of logs, detailed time reporting of logging operations, tool failures and hole condition issues.
  • Liaise directly with Geo-steering engineers as part of the landing and drill out of horizontal sections
  • Liaise directly with Ops Petrophysicist on the LWD and wireline data quality, whether relogging is required.
    • Provide daily geological reports as required (DGR) at 06:00 and conduct daily communication calls with Operations Geologist / Well Engineering in Trinidad
    • Support real time pore pressure team (RTPPP) and follow the communications protocol as defined by NES Fircroft
    • File daily well site report
    • Assist Operations Geologist in compilation of final completion/composite logs
    • Reports (to be confirmed): DSV’s offshore / Operations Geologist/Ops Petrophysicist in Trinidad.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Degree in Geology.
  • Critical requirement: Minimum 10 years’ experience as a well site geologist, with substantial Trinidad East Coast sediment/ stratigraphy experience (preferred)
  • Solid understanding of real time pore pressure monitoring (RTPPP)
  • Experienced in the use of log drafting software (to be advised), and MS Office.
  • Communication skills, with mud loggers, LWD and wireline engineers, and Fircroft DSV’s, as well as office based staff.
  • Skill in rapid assimilation and analysis of formation evaluation, drilling and petrophysical data, analysis and communication to relevant parties.
