Job Summary: The incumbent is responsible for providing steam for the Plant. The person in this position will be required to work on a shift basis.

General Duties & Responsibilities:

Operations

  • Start up the boiler daily.
  • Observe and interpret readings on gauges, meters and charts registering various aspects of the boiler operation.
  • Activate valves to maintain required amount of water in boilers, adjust supplies of combustion air and control the flow of fuel into burners.
  • Monitor boiler water, chemicals and fuel levels and make adjustments to maintain required levels.
  • Monitor and inspect equipment, computer terminals, switches, valves, gauges, alarms, safety, devices and meters to detect leaks or malfunctions and to ensure that equipment is operating efficiently and safely.
  • Maintain daily logs of operation, maintenance and safety activities including test results, instrument readings and details of equipment malfunctions and maintenance work.
  • Clean and lubricate boilers and auxiliary equipment mechanically and electrically.
  • Maintain the Total Dissolve Solids (TDS) range.
  • Blow down the bottom of the boiler to get rid of the solids.
  • Ensure that only soft water goes into the boiler and switch Water softener every 12 hours.
  • Report findings to Maintenance Supervisor Daily.
  • Regenerate the softener quality of the water every 12 hours.
  • Perform repairs to Boiler.
  • Ensure that there is an adequate supply of chemicals (LB85L and 5505L) to dissolve the solids in the boiler.
  • Record Boiler readings in the daily report sheet

Quality Control

  • Test the water quality or arrange for testing and take the necessary corrective action, such as adding chemicals to prevent corrosion and harmful deposits
  • Ensure that there is an adequate supply of chemicals (LB85L and 5505L) to dissolve the solids in the boiler.

Perform all other duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Boiler training course Certificate.
  • Basic knowledge of Electrical and Mechanical.
  • Knowledge of pneumatics and hydraulics.
  • CXC Qualification in Mathematics and English Language.
