PROJECT ASSISTANT

The Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) Office in Barbados is inviting applications for a Project Assistant under the 11th European Development Fund Support to CARIFORUM States in Furthering the Implementation of their Economic Partnership Agreement Commitments and in Meaningfully Reaping the Benefits of the Agreement: Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures (SPS) Project. This is a joint Action funded under the 11th European Development Fund (EDF) through a Contribution Agreement between the European Commission (EC) and IICA. The objective of this Project is to increase production and trade in agriculture and fisheries which meet international standards while protecting plant, animal and human health and the environment.

Role and Responsibilities

  • The Project Assistant will assist with the overall implementation of the 11th EDF SPS Project including, but not limited to logistical coordination, procurement of goods and services and monitoring and evaluating project actions in order to ensure efficient implementation within the timeframes outlined in the Project work plan and in keeping with the guidelines and procedures of IICA.
  • The appointment will for one year in the first instance, with an option to renew, and will be based in the IICA Barbados Office.

Minimum Requirements:

 

  • Advanced University Degree (Masters or equivalent), preferably in business, administration or a related area with at least 2 years post qualification experience.
  • A First degree in business, administration, project management or a related area may be considered with more than 5 years post qualification experience.
  • Understanding of project management as well as monitoring and evaluation concepts.
  • Knowledge of agriculture would be beneficial.

Competencies and Skills:

 

  • Good organizational skills and ability to multi-task and work in a team.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Suite - Word, Excel, Power Point, Project as well as knowledge and experience with web based technologies.
  • Basic knowledge of Spanish would be an asset.
