Head- Campus Security        

ROLE AND CORE FUNCTION:

The incumbent is expected to provide general guidance in protection of   college assets, while supervising the execution security measures aimed at safe guarding the life of staff, students and visitors to the College campus.

                                                

Education/ Experience

  • Bachelors Degree in Security Protection and Investigative Management or its equivalent
  • At least two years experience in the field.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Ability to successfully conduct security audits without direct supervision.
  • Conduct threat assessment and implement mitigating measures
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to issue directives in keeping with policies and procedures.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, and customer service orientation.
  • Ability to respond calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Knowledge of public security codes, policies, and regulations.
  • Ability to understand, follow, and enforce safety codes, regulations, and procedures.
  • Supervise protection services to individuals on campus
  • Ability to detect and resolve challenges and report outcome to appropriate personnel.
  • Ability to gather and compile information and prepare and submit reports
  • Keep abreast with current trends, policies and procedures in the sector, particularly in the educational environment.
  • Critical thinking and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job

  • Implement measures to defuse and manage physical altercation

Special Conditions Associated With the Job

  • Work is normally performed in the external environment
  • May occasionally be required to travel in country, in the region and overseas for related College assignments
  • May be required to work beyond normal working hours to meet deadlines and complete workload.

 MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  1. Collaborates with all the stakeholders to design; develop and implement the college security plan.
  2. Collaborates with the Principal, Director of Planning in overseeing the college's security plan to ensure an environment that is conducive to learning and working
  3. Implement strategies to monitor students in building and/or on campus.
  4. Implement and manage system to reduce the entrance of unauthorized persons, suspicious/criminal activity, disturbances, fights and college rule violations.
  5. Manage violations and reporting protocols and track offenders.
  6. Under the direction of the Principal, and the Director of Planning, works with staff to ensure that the social-emotional needs of students are met in a timely manner.
  7. Collaborates with leadership on all matters pertaining to the climate of the school, with the goal of creating a positive, welcoming, safe learning environment for all students in accordance with the goals of the college and Ministry of Education Security and Safety policies.
  8. Develops and/or supports a school wide behavior intervention plan that clearly identifies behaviors as classroom-managed or requiring office referral, and suggested responses
  9. Consistently tracks, monitors and analyzes student discipline data, and uses data to proactively develop systems that support the college security objectives
  10. Actively and passively support  consistent compliance of the Student Code of Conduct
  11. Liaisons with internal and external stakeholders to enhance the college disciplinary culture and coach or coordinate targeted supports for the students and particular staff members as needed
  12. Supervises and coach security staff, including external security provider and other Support Specialists
  13. Facilitates professional development and support staff on security related topics
  14. Perform other duties as assigned

 

 

PERFORMANCE CRITERIA

 

The job is satisfactorily executed when:

  1. Security department are in compliance with all ISO Security Standards 
  2. Effective execution security policies and procedure that are in place are managed
  3. The deployment of all security officers are audited to ensure the colleges have proper security coverage at all times
  4. All security related activities are audited in a  timely manner and report to supervisor in timely manner depending on the situation/ case
  5. The electronic security coverage of the colleges is maintained
  6. All security and safety violation (emergency situation) are managed and fully investigated and findings and the necessary recommendations are made to supervisor in a timely manner.
  7. The appropriate security services are provided to visitors, students, staff and faculty upon request in a timely manner.
  8. Collaboration is made with the Standard, and Health and Safety Department in reviewing emergency lockdowns and crisis intervention plan and/or evacuation procedures and update done in a timely manner. 
  9.  The Colleges’ Security Department provides the necessary support/assistance with the evacuation of building during drills and actual emergencies.
  10. Collaboration is given with the College Maintenance Department to ensure security of the campus  
  11. Security presence is maintained in retail enterprises.
  12. E0xternal stakeholders such as the Private Security Provider(s); the Local Police; Jamaica Fire Brigade (JFB); The Office Disaster Preparedness and Emergency  Management (ODPEM); Rise life Management Service are liaised with.
