Some Main Responsibilities include:
- Ability to operate material handling equipment.
- Operate and inspect machines or heavy equipment to diagnose defects.
- Overall and test machines or equipment to ensure operating efficiency.
- Read and understand operating manuals, troubleshooting guides and wiring schematics.
- Examine the specified equipment and determine the nature and extent of damage or malfunction.
- Plan work procedure using charts, technical manuals and experience.
- Determine what parts are necessary for repair, requisition parts accordingly and provide recommendations and justification for budget proposal.
- Lubricate moving parts and drive or test specified equipment, to verify conformance to specifications.
- Perform routine maintenance as per manufacturer’s recommendations, for all specified equipment present at the various locations, with the exception of leased equipment unless this forms part of the lease agreement for the specific equipment.
- Change oil, check batteries, repair tires and tubes, and lubricate equipment and machinery.
- Examine protective guards, nuts and bolts, and specified safety devices, making adjustments as required.
- Inspect and clean the specified equipment, checking for wear and tear weekly by reviewing specific parts inclusive of but not limited to: hydraulic lines, tires, lights, battery, horn, etc.
- Test mechanical products and equipment after repair or assembly to ensure proper performance and compliance with manufacturers’ specifications.
- Ensure preventative maintenance schedules are adhered to for the respective equipment.
- Research, order and maintain parts inventory for services and repairs.
- Maintain comprehensive listing of all equipment inclusive of dates of manufacture and commissioning/ operation, etc.
- Make recommendations on aging equipment for replacement, etc.
- Provide daily status reports indicating equipment which are: out of order and or malfunctioning, the reason, corrective measures and the estimated time frame for correction
- Perform other duties that may be required to enhance the operations of the Company.
Qualification, Experience and Requirement:
- Mechanical / Electrical based apprenticeship with City & Guilds or equivalent qualifications.
- A minimum of four years’ experience in a similar position
- Experience with Aisle Master forklifts will be an asset
- Or relevant combination of training and experience
- Must provide a valid Police Certificate of Good Character
