POSITION/TITLE: Communications Lecturer

 

ROLE AND CORE FUNCTION:

 

1. Lecturing

2. Writing Examination & Course work items and Mark Schemes

3. Marking course deliverables and submission of grades

4. Preparing Course materials

5. Preparing Examination question papers and Mark Schemes

6. Active participation in staff/departmental meetings

7. Assisting with students’ discipline and other forms of student assessments

8. Active participation and contribution to institutional events/activities.

9. Attendance at requested college events, for example, Graduation Student award ceremony

10. Participating in professional development activities.

11. Participating in industry furloughs.

 

Education/Experience:

· Trained Teacher’s certification

· Minimum of a Masters Degree in a related discipline

· At least five years experience as a lecturer in a public secondary or tertiary institution

· Post Graduate qualifications would be an asset

 

Specialized Skills, Techniques/Learned Disciplines:

· Currency in content area/s of curriculum courses

· Excellent command and delivery of content area of curriculum

· Competence with personal computers/Microsoft Office Suite of software

· Time management skills

· Class management skills

· Strong interpersonal as well as communication skills

· Ability to use personal computer specifically Microsoft suite of software

 

Special Conditions Associated With the Job:

· Work is normally performed in a typical classroom /interior/office work environment

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

1. Supporting the recruitment and retention of students, by assisting with student interviews, providing academic advisement, guidance and support to students.

2. Setting Examination Questions and preparing Mark Schemes and submitting these in a timely manner.

3. Attending Item Writing, Vetting and Table Marking sessions, staff meetings, and other events as required.

4. Marking of scripts, assignments and other forms of assessments and submitting grades in a timely manner, i.e. on or before stipulated due dates.

5. Contributing to Curriculum review and development, as well as selection and development of instructional materials.

6. Effectively communicating subject matter content to students.

7. Plans and organizes instruction in ways which maximize student learning.

8. Maintains currency in subject matter through professional development.

9. Assisting with the development of programme Syllabi.

10. Ensuring that instructions are delivered using appropriate and relevant methodologies.

11. Evaluating/assessing and testing students.

12. Mentoring and collaborating with colleagues so as to enhance student learning and achievement

13. Ensuring that prescribed students’ records are kept.

14. Fostering and nurturing students’ development on the personal and social levels

15. Assisting with students’ discipline.

16. Reviewing and making recommendations for books/supplemental learning resources for placement in the Library.

17. Preparing and submitting reports as required.

18. Maintaining accurate records of students’ progress.

19. Developing and maintaining familiarity with College goals, mission and long-range plans

20. Participating in professional activities that contribute to the educational goals of the College and its stakeholders

21. Maintaining regular office/consultation hours to ensure accessibility to colleagues and students to provide general guidance and being available for consultation to students in respect of Research Projects and other assignments etc.

22. Evaluating, grading and expeditiously returning students’ assignments to promote maximum learning

23. Developing and using evaluation methods which fairly measure students’ progress

24. Assisting with the administrative duties of the department as assigned by the HOD from time to time

25. Participating in accreditation and strategic planning activities.

26. Performing such other duties temporarily or on a continuing basis, as meet the exigencies of the teaching and learning domains as assigned from time to time.

 

PERFORMANCE CRITERIA:

The job has been satisfactorily completed when:

1. General lecturing duties have been performed as timetabled in a timely manner

2. There was participation in Curriculum review and development as necessary

3. Adequate and timely preparation for contact sessions, class delivery and assessment of students.

4. Examination Questions were set and submitted on time

5. Item Writing and vetting sessions were attended as required.

6. Scripts and assignments were marked in a timely manner.

7. Grades were submitted on or before stipulated dates.

8. General guidance and student consultation were provided to students in respect of Research Projects and assignments.

9. Assistance was given withstudents discipline

10. Assistance was given with the administrative duties within department assigned

11. Reports were submitted as required.

12. Demonstrates and applies a thorough and accurate knowledge of the teaching field and discipline.

13. Modifies instructional methods and strategies to meet diverse student’s needs

14. Plans and organizes instruction in ways which maximizes student learning

15. Maintains currency in subject matter through professional development

16. Assisting with the Development of programme Syllabi

17. Ensuring that instructions are delivered using appropriate and relevant methodologies
