The Business Development Manager is responsible to lead the development, execution, and evaluation of effective strategies and tactics to achieve the revenue targets of our business units.

JOB SPECIFICATION

Core Functions: 

The Business Development Manager is responsible to lead the development, execution, and evaluation of effective strategies and tactics to achieve the revenue targets of the business units (Meadowrest Memorial Gardens (MMG), Shirley Retreat Hotel (SRH) & the Madge Saunders Conference Centre (MSCC)) of the United Church Mission Enterprise.

He/She is an ambassador for the Funeral Services and Hospitality brands and ensures their development and enhancements.

The Business Development Manager leads and directs activities and initiatives related to business development and marketing, including but not limited to existing products, new products, new markets, channel development, and product/process innovation.

He/She is responsible for achieving revenue targets providing optimal balance between profitability and customer satisfaction measures.

(a)     Specific Knowledge:

  • Keen understanding of how technology and the internet have revolutionized and continues to impact industries
  • Expertise or in-depth knowledge of Online & Digital Marketing
  • A strong understanding of P&L statements and key profitability levers

(b)     Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in business administration, marketing, finance or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in business development and marketing at a senior level.
  • Training in project management would be an asset.
  • Multilingual abilities would be an asset.

 RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

       The Business Development Manager primary responsibilities include:

  1. Source, implement, and manage local and overseas business opportunities for the sale of vaults, crematorium, columbarium, repast, room occupancy levels and conference/meetings room bookings individual and groups bookings for SRH and MSCC.  
  2. Investigate and propose areas for innovation in the business units, including new products/services, product/service line extensions, product/service and process improvements and marketing programmes in new markets/channels.
  3. Conduct market research and competitor analysis to inform business development strategies, and identify new opportunities
  4. Oversee marketing campaigns, advertising and promotion activities of the business units.
  5. Manage all stages of new product/service development.
  6. Prepare business cases and proposal documents for approval by the Chief Executive Officer.
  7. Prepare and present regular reports on all business development initiatives.
  8. Meet all objectives, subject to approved budgets, timelines, and targets.
  9. Use multi-faceted approaches to keep abreast of trends and developments in various markets and consumer segments.
  10. Provide direct supervision of the Hotel Administration Supervisor at the SRH.
  11. Manage the performance of direct report/s ensuring the effective performance of duties and the timely completion of Performance Appraisals.
  12. Ensuring compliance with licensing laws, health and safety and other statutory regulations.
  13. Perform any other duties assigned by the Chief Executive Officer.

Special Conditions associated with the job:

  • The position carries performance expectations in terms of delivering on budgets, and commercial targets and will require, from time to time, work, and travel outside normal hours and on weekends.
  • Regular attendance at social functions and gatherings outside of normal work hours.
  • Working hours can be long and could impact social and family life.
