The Assistant Accountant supports daily GL operations, manages taxation, ensures accurate financial records, and compliance with policies, accounting standards, and tax laws. This role contributes to financial reporting, strategic decision-making, and assists with audits and policy development.

b Summary

The Assistant Accountant is responsible for supporting the day-to-day operations of the general ledger, managing taxation, maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring adherence to the Group’s policies, procedures, and compliance with accounting standards, Tax laws and regulations. This role plays a critical part in the financial reporting process, supports various accounting functions and aids in strategic decision-making. The Assistant Accountant is also responsible for assisting in the development and implementation of policies, processes and providing support during audit.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Accurately manage monthly, the accounting, tracking, journal entries, reconciliations, documentation and reporting of the company’s general ledger accounts such as loans, investments, other receivables, prepayments, accruals, other payables etc. in accordance with applicable accounting standards and Group’s policies. This includes identifying discrepancies, resolving issues and recording adjustments relating to general ledger transactions.
  2. Accurately analyze monthly, quarterly and at year end prior year/current year/month comparatives, prepare analytical reports/analyses and provide commentary based on the income statement and balance sheet movements.
  3. Accurately manage monthly, based on timelines outlined by group reporting, intercompany reporting. This includespreparing analysis, ensuring analysis agrees to the TB and there are no differences, uploading balances, performing matching, sending out variances and ensuring that all variances are addressed before closing the GL.
  4. Accurately manage all aspects of the company’s taxation including accounting, reconciliation, filing, maintaining proper documentation, ensuring compliance with relevant tax laws and regulations based on timelines outlined by Group Tax. This includes computation of taxes, recording journals and adjustments from reconciliation performed, preparing estimated tax projections on a quarterly basis/when required by management, uploading Tax Packs, ensuring FTQ is archived and ensuring that all payments are remitted on a timely basis.
  5. Maintain and update accounting records with supporting documents, analyzes and files to ensure proper documentation for internal and external audits. Provide additional support during internal and external audits, respond to inquiries and upload request via the auditor’s portal/system.
  6. Assist in the preparation and management of monthly and quarterly financial reporting accounts ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting principles and Group’s policies. Reports must reflect accurately the company’s financial position.
  7. Prepare and maintain the trial balances. Ensure that all financial data is recorded correctly and in accordance with applicable accounting principles, standards and Group’s policies. This includes ensuring that all journals are posted before closing the General Ledger, Intercompany GL accounts agree to the analysis, uploading the trial balances as per timelines outlined by Group Reporting and ensuring FTQ is achieved.
  8. Assist in managing employees’ mapping, financial dimensions, account structures and rules.
  9. Provide necessary documentation, analyses, respond to inquiries and support during internal and external audits relating to the General Ledger and Taxation.
  10. Collaborate with other departments to resolve any discrepancies or issues related to general ledger transactions.
  11. Assist with the development and implementation of policies and procedures to improve efficiency and compliance relating to the General Ledger and Taxation.
  12. Promote safety awareness and the development of a safety culture within the company.
  13. Ensure compliance with Ansa McAL Group Policies, accounting principles (GAAP/IFRS) and internal controls.

Job Qualifications

  • 4-5 years’ Experience in General Ledger. Experience with Taxation and Financial Reporting will be a plus.
  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities, capable of managing multiple tasks.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices.
  • Completion of Level 2 ACCA Qualification or equivalent.
