JOB SUMMARY:

Reporting to the General Manager, the Accountant is responsible for the accounting function at the Credit Union. He/She is also responsible for managing and mentoring the accounting team, comprising senior and junior professionals, in the preparation of financial statements and analysis of the organisation’s business trends for presentation to the General Manager and the Board of Directors. This must be performed in an accurate and timely manner to assist the efficient management and strategic decision-making process to maximise the surplus of financial operations for the benefit of the membership.

  

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Manages ALL Accounting functions
  • Establishes and oversees compliance with internal controls
  • Prepares balance sheet, profit and loss, and cash flow statement
  • Substantiates financial transactions by auditing documents
  • Maintains accounting controls by preparing and recommending policies and procedures
  • Reconciles financial discrepancies by analyzing account information
  • Develops budgets and cash flow projections
  • Liaises with external auditors
  • Prepares the monthly payroll
  • Comply with financial policies and regulations
  • Comply with Credit Union Act, Policies and Regulations

  

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Fully ACCA qualified, or BSc Accounting, or CPA (Certified Public Accountant)
  • Minimum of five (5) years accounting experience including three (3) years at a senior level preferably within a credit  union or an organisation within the financial services sector
  • Advanced MS Excel skills including Vlookups and pivot tables
  • Hands-on experience with integrated enterprise/accounting software systems (e.g. Sharetec)
