Job Summary:
The Hotel Accountant will prepare financial reports to track the hotel’s assets, liabilities, profit and loss, tax liabilities, and perform other related financial activities including but not limited to financial statements, cash flow statements, bank reconciliations, receivables and payables management. Ensuring full documentation of all financial transactions of the hotel, the proper maintenance of all accounting records and under the supervision and guidance of the Financial Controller, the preparation of financial accounts in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.

Job Summary:

Education & Experience:
Accounting CXC / certificate course in accounting required
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance preferred
Minimum three years of accounting experience in a similar position required
Required Skills:
Extensive knowledge of general financial accounting and cost accounting
Understanding of and ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles
Highly proficient with accounting software
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software
Duties/Responsibilities:
§ Posting of entries and maintenance of the general ledger
§ Posting bank transactions
§ Bank reconciliations
§ Treasury management
§ Reconciling balance sheet accounts
§ Preparation of accounts to trial balance level
§ Preparation of daily management reports
§ Supervision of junior accounting staff
§ Full maintenance of accounts payables
§ Preparation of GCT returns
§ Payroll processing
§ Timely preparation of monthly statutory reports
§ Perform general cost accounting and other related duties in the accounting department
§ Assist in the preparation of monthly financial reports - prepares periodic (monthly) balance sheets, income statements, and profit and loss statements
§ Codes invoices, sets up new accounts, reconciles accounts, and closes the monthly books
§ Reconciles bank accounts at least monthly, verifies deposits, and addresses inquiries from banks
§ Reconciles customer accounts and manages accounts receivable collections
§ Verifies payment of invoices associated with accounts payable and ensures payments are charged to the appropriate accounts
§ Provides outside auditors with assistance; gathers necessary account information and documents to perform annual audit
§ Files required tax forms with federal, state, and local government agencies
§ As appropriate, coordinates with software vendor to maintain accounting software system; recommends updates to enhance the accounting software
§ Performs other related duties as assigned
Special Conditions Associated with the Position:
§ Working hours are 6 days a week; 8 hours a day including weekends and public holidays
§ Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
§ May be required to work extended hours to meet deadlines and hotel operational needs
§ Tools required include a computer and phone
Key Performance Indicators:
§ Timely submission of reports
§ Evaluations received from internal and external audits
§ Annual performance review from Financial Controller
