Job Summary:

  • Responsible for the origination, control and management of quality accounts to grow the asset portfolio consistent with both short and long-range objectives of the Business Banking Team and the ANSA Merchant Bank while contributing to the growth & development of direct reports and providing superior customer service to clientele.
  • May also be responsible for the structure, analysis and syndication of capital market transactions on behalf of clients.
  • Responsible for supervising all direct reports, as it relates to the management of the Business Banking portfolio which includes making recommendations to the Head, Business Banking for granting lines of credit based on credit worthiness and risk exposure, reviewing and coordinating new credit proposals, ensuring the optimal performance of the Business Banking Team as it pertains to portfolio management, delinquency management, deals closing and execution.
  • Responsible for performing all duties and functions consistent with the Group’s policies and procedures, health and safety standards and business continuity responsibilities while delivering service excellence at all times.

Job Description:

  • Assists in the development and implementation of marketing strategies and engages in new business development activities of profitable relationships.
  • Assess the credit worthiness of borrowers while exercising sound credit judgment and best practice in corporate lending and make the necessary recommendations to Head-Business Banking to obtain credit approval within the required Lending Authority.
  • Prepares Sales and Marketing materials associated with syndication of transactions, where applicable.
  • Conducts marketing and site visits with the key personnel of the prospective and existing clients in an effort to determine the financing needs, identify new financing opportunities in line with performance measurement targets and market the Group’s products & services.
  • Contributes to profitable growth of the Business Banking Portfolio by ensuring optimum pricing on all credits within policy guidelines.
  • Reviews and recommends credit applications to Head, Business Banking and where necessary recommends to the higher approving authority, ensuring compliance of credit applications with the Bank’s policies and procedures.
  • Recommend/propose optimal deal structures for prospects to meet the customers’ requirements and within credit policy tolerance.
  • Maintains a regular call program on customers (new/prospective) with the intention of building and maintaining banking relationships.
  • Reviews internal credit decisions and monitors the quality of the Business Banking Portfolio and makes recommendations for corrective actions as appropriate and within acceptable time limits.
  • Keeps abreast of changes of the Bank’s policies, economic and business trends and legislation, as well as an awareness of accounting practices, government tax regulations and other factors relating to financial statement presentations.
  • Conduct quarterly performance feedback sessions with direct reports, and provide coaching and recommend training activities, where necessary towards improving performance standards and overall professional development.
  • Assists in identifying formal credit training needs as well as develops assigned staff to ensure that credit applications are made with due regard for portfolio risk and sound credit judgement.
  • Provides input in the formulation of the budget and monitors expenditure for cost items for the Centre.
  • Recommends new business strategies to Head- Business Banking for the development of Annual Business Plans, in order to achieve performance targets.
  • Recommends to Head- Business Banking restructuring plans for non-performing accounts as well as initiating legal action where necessary.
  • Oversees the Business Banking Portfolio in the absence of Head- Business Banking.
  • Maintains strong linkages and fosters positive working relationships with Operational Units within the Group on matters pertaining to Risk, Legal, Finance, Treasury etc.
  • Interacts and maintains working relationships including responding to customers’ enquiries, incoming and outgoing calls both local and foreign in a courteous and timely manner consistent with operating standards and escalation to Head where necessary.
  • Provide prompt and courteous service to prospective customers and establish cordial working relationships within office environs to foster overall customer satisfaction.
  • Acquire and maintain knowledge of the Bank’s loan products / services and policies in order to respond to inquiries / concerns / or complaints directed to you by resolving those matters within your discretion.
  • Completes special projects and other related activities as assigned by the Senior Manager / Head– Business Banking Unit.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree in a Business-related field from a reputable University or other professional qualification from a recognized professional body e.g., CFA, CIMA, ACCA, CGA, CPA and five (5) years progressive experience in a credit and/or risk environment, at least two (2) of which must be at a Managerial Level OR
  • An Executive Diploma/Diploma and seven (7) years progressive experience in a credit and or risk environment, at least five (5) of which must be at a Managerial Level.
  • An MBA specializing in Finance, Accounting, Banking or Credit Management will be considered an asset.
  • Must possess strong Leadership and Managerial skills, with strong conflict resolution and team building skills, leading with high emotional intelligence.
  • Must possess knowledge of Investment Management.
  • Working knowledge of Banking Law and Regulatory Legislation and knowledge of relevant legal and regulatory requirements both locally and regionally.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with customers with a high level of professionalism and professional deportment.
  • Proven skillset in business generation, deal valuation and structuring.
  • Ability to practice effective cross-cultural communication, encourage strategic thinking and foster an environment of innovation within the team.
  • Exhibit strong ethical values and civic mindedness.
  • Trustworthy with matters of a highly confidential nature.
  • Ability to motivate others in high pressure situations.
