Bachelor of Science in Food Science and Technology

Description:

The Bachelor of Science in Food Science and Technology programme is designed to prepare students in the use of science and technology to add value to primary agricultural products, promoting the economic viability and sustainability of agri-businesses. Students will be exposed to food processing engineering, packaging and food product development; food microbiology and chemistry and post harvest technology. Practical industry-type experience will be gained.

Potential Careers and Employment Opportunities:

UTT food scientist graduates will be prepared to be entrepreneurs in the food industry or pursue careers in supply chain management, process, product and packaging development, quality assurance or research and development. Graduates can also pursue advanced degrees in research.

Entry Requirements:

  • Passes in Biology and Chemistry at GCE A Level or CAPE (Unit 1) including Grades I, II or II. (Applicants with passes in both CAPE (Units 1 and 2) or GCE A Level subjects in Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics may be eligible for certain exemptions)
  • Applicants must also possess a minimum of five (5) subjects at CXC (CSEC) General Proficiency level in Grades I or II and from 1998 Grade III or equivalent GCE O Levels including Grades A, B or C  in Mathematics, English Language, Chemistry, Biology OR
  • An ECIAF Diploma in Agriculture OR
  • Other equivalent qualifications may be also considered
