In this feature special, CaribbeanJobs.com, takes a look at the labour force & the regional movement of Guyanese workers and employment conditions within Guyana. One pro-active firm that is supporting Guyanese professionals in their job search is NEXUS Human Resources Network.
Guyanan is the only English-speaking country in South America and became independent in 1966.
Guyana is eighty three thousand square miles in area and more than 80% of the land area is still forested. The country is rich with most valuable mineral deposits including bauxite, gold and diamonds with the agricultural sector accounting for half of the national GDP.
Guyana, is a CARICOM Member State with promising human potential, boasts a large, mobile and inexpensive labour force comprising unskilled, semi-skilled and skilled workers.
Guyana’s wealth notwithstanding, the country has a high unemployment rate and many Guyanese seek their fortunes outside the country; the exodus of skilled migrants is among the highest in the region.
Through an ever expanding regional clientele, NHRN, has already in its short existence successfully placed scores of skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled Guyanese workers in jobs around the Caribbean. These include Project Engineers, Autocad Technicians, Equipment Operators, Mechanics, Construction Supervisors, Land and Quantity Surveyors, Welders and General Labourers.
To date, Nexus has received and continues to receive numerous Resumes from persons with skills mentioned above as well as areas such as Marketing, Accounting, Management, HR and many others interested in jobs overseas.
