West Indian Traders

West Indian Traders

The Company was registered and began trading in June 1996, and is owned by Michael and Deirdre Seheult (50%) and Rene Buissant of Holland (50 %)

In the beginning our primary focus was the supply of candy, cookies and novelty items to schools and small “Mom and Pop” outlets, eventually operating a fleet of eleven “route trucks” which covered both Trinidad and Tobago. As the market evolved and as we secured the agencies of several lines more suited to the supermarket trade, we too restructured in order to meet the needs of our customers.

Our mission statement -”We are a dynamic, growing and profitable company, built on a foundation of professionalism, teamwork and respect for our customers, suppliers and team members. We treat each and every customer with care, love and respect and provide the most efficient and economical service possible.

The only things exclusive to us are our knowledge of our products and the trade and the way we treat the customer. These make us special and ensure our success.”

In order to achieve this we currently employ five salespeople who service the A and B customers, selling as well as merchandizing. These “Key Account Salespeople” are responsible for a limited number of stores and, in addition to sales and merchandizing, also arrange promotions, specials and all in store activity. They report directly to the “Key Account Manager”. Orders are billed in house for next day delivery.

We are in the process of converting our nine routes to the “Pre sell” system in order to give us improved control and more pertinent customer information. In this system orders are taken, billed in-house, and delivered the next day through a combination of wholly owned trucks and contracted delivery vehicles. Four routes have already been converted. Five route trucks continue to service the areas not yet converted

Our success is driven by our knowledge of the trade and the commitment of our employees.
