Primary Responsibilities:
1. Responsible for the overall financial performance, condition, and viability of the campuses and centers in Jamaica and the Caribbean.
2. Develops and implements short-term and long-term strategic plans for the Institution’s growth that are consistent with the missions, vision and values of the University College.
3. Provides the board and senior executives with accurate and timely information about the university college performance on a continuing basis so as to facilitate informed decision making.
4. Establishes and maintains an effective organizational structure so as to accomplish the University College’s objectives; establishes practices to ensure adequate management development and to provide for capable management succession.
5. Provides sound business, managerial and financial guidance to subordinates in the conduct of their duties as well as facilitating effective communication on a daily basis so as to reinforce teamwork and information sharing.
6. Assures effective administration and management across all locations in Jamaica through the application of management principles within established guidelines; ensures that operating internal controls are properly applied.
7. Develops and implements adequate measures to meet the fiscal needs of the University College, to conserve its assets and to maintain an effective system of budgeting control.
8. Ensures compliance with all regulatory and statutory regulations; amends existing policies/procedures as needed.
Following are the major accountabilities of the President’s position:
a. Main Campus and Regional Center Growth: creating, implementing and balancing initiatives designed to increase new local, regional and international student enrollments.
b. Student Success and Retention: effective leadership of the academic programs, support activities and resources to support students throughout their academic career.
c. Institutional Viability: effectively direct day to day operations to ensure the gross margin targets of the annual budget as well as making efficient use of capital.
d. General Financial Administration Oversight: provide effective general financial management in areas such as purchasing, accounts payable, financial aid processing and accounts receivable.
e. Local and National Projects: ensure successful implementation of corporate and major facility projects; e.g. IT projects etc.
f. Human Capital Development: provide general oversight in the area of the recruitment, development and retention of excellent faculty and staff to include setting up development programs and timely performance reviews. Manage successions and develop staff for growth opportunities throughout the organization.
Specific Responsibilities:
1. Reviews forecasts and proposes capital expenditures; approves main campus and center budgets and supervises preparation of financial reports for all locations in Jamaica.
2. Ensures that graduate and undergraduate curricula for the campuses and centers in Jamaica is relevant to local and national needs, recommends changes to academic management and develops an academic strategy for Jamaica and possible the region.
3. Monitor and work with academic leadership to enhance faculty and academic management through a formal training and development program.
4. Provide general oversight for overall quality of instruction through periodic evaluations and audits on how effectively programs are meeting established objectives.
5. Provide general oversight in the development of financial plans that are consistent with the University College’s goals and objectives; ensures that adequate safeguards and controls are in place to protect the Company’s assets.
6. Provide general oversight for effective manpower planning, proper recruitment and staffing, effective utilization of all manpower, management development, and leading and motivating so as to achieve excellent job performance.
7. Provide general oversight and monitoring of the existing AERION comprehensive student management and enrolment system; provides resources as needed to accomplish student enrollment goals and objectives.
Qualifications:
1. Successful record of senior-level leadership in higher education and/or business;
2. An understanding of the for-profit sector of higher education, to include an understanding of basic business management concepts;
3. Effective in various situational leadership roles with a variety of constituencies;
4. Adept at revenue-based budgeting and forecasting. Ability to generate and analyze research data. Working knowledge of appropriate financial analysis techniques;
5. Knowledgeable in personnel administration with an understanding of wage and salary administration, performance evaluation, succession planning and training.
