With operations in 19 territories and growing, our Client in the insurance sector has a vacancy
for an Underwriting Manager, Medical Division.

The successful candidate will be a senior member of the Management team and will be responsible for the management of the underwriting and sales function within the Medical Division.  The execution of the duties entailed in this position will require frequent travel to various jurisdictions where the organization has operations. 

Roles and Responsibilities:

• To ensure medical business line strategies and plans are in place and executed
• To produce exceptional business results through monitoring and measurement of metrics and implementation of underwriting and product strategies across all territories
• To work with the Medical team and directly with business partners in order to ensure that the medical line is provided with the best product offering and customer proposition
• Establish and maintain underwriting guidelines appropriate to each territory
• Manage and train Medical staff
• Identifies and implements key performance indicators (KPIs) and key performance targets for the Medical division
• Drives continuous improvements and change within the Medical division in order to meet the objectives set
• To review and report on progress, timeliness and any other relevant industry information to management and/or the Supervisory Board
• To participate in the product development process the underwriting final signatory
• Assist with reinsurance decision making and administration
• Identify future opportunities for business growth in the Medical line across all territories
• Review and assess medical management software  

Required Qualifications & Experience:

• Minimum of five (5) years experience in management in the Medical Insurance industry
• Bachelor’s Degree in Health Services Administration, Business Administration, Health Science, Public Health or
  equivalent
• Relevant Insurance qualifications (e.g. FLMI, FLHC, MHP, HIA, ARE, ARA, AU or equivalent) a plus
• Ability to plan and think strategically to successfully identify opportunities for the development of Medical line across all territories
• Interpersonal; decision-making; complex problem-solving and time management skills
•  Results oriented with willingness to take initiative and responsibility and adapt to rapidly changing environments
• Ability to lead, guide and motivate staff
• Good understanding of underwriting procedures as well as reinsurance principles and practices
• Good negotiation and persuasiveness skills
• Good oral and written communication skills in English.  Dutch and/or French would be an asset
• Must be able to travel overseas to various territories where the organization has operations as the job requires

Compensation and Benefits:     

The selected candidate will be offered an attractive salary which will commensurate with experience and education.  Health insurance among other benefits are also provided.
