JOB SUMMARY
The incumbent is required to teach the approved English Syllabus to students who have been exposed to Forms 4 to 5 in a secondary school in accordance with the approved MILAT curriculum. Duties include liaising with respective craft/ technical vocational teachers so as to ensure the integration of the subject matter as it pertains to the respective craft/ technical vocational course as well as coach mentor and monitor the progress of students, and effective classroom supervision to ensure the successful achievement of MILAT’S objective.
JOB FUNCTIONS
The incumbent is required to prepare Lesson Plans (English) for the effective delivery of courses. Keep records of all students’ academic achievement, streamline students in the area of their core competence, advise the Dean of Academics of student’s capacity to meet the accepted standards and make recommendations for remedial training, referrals and advancement (promotion).
Key Duties and Responsibilities
1. Plans a programme of learning to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes of students in accordance with the MILAT curriculum.
2. Prepares the scheme of work that guides the application of the curriculum; the lessons’ notes which define specific areas/topics (Lesson Plans). This includes the preparation of charts, diagrams and other general teaching aids and the application of appropriate teaching methods, techniques and strategies. E.g. lectures, interactive discussions, demonstrations, audio visual aids, individual and group work.
3. Plans and gives lessons to improve students’ performance in the relevant subject areas where progress is not up to the required standard.
4. Monitors the all-round development of students and discusses progress and problems with students, academy administration as necessary.
5. Supervises students during approved activities in the classroom and on the Academy compound to ensure their safety and good conduct.
6. Organises and supervises educational, sporting, cultural and other approved co-curricular activities involving students.
7. Identifies appropriate material and equipment needed for use in subject area(s) and make recommendations for purchase.
8. Conducts on-going assessments of students’ theoretical and practical competencies and maintains record of progress.
9. Prepares, administers and marks tests, projects, SBA’S and other assignment to evaluate students’ progress and maintains records of students’ attainment in curriculum area over a designated period.
10. Ensures that students keep classrooms, lecture rooms, workshops and other learning areas in an orderly and sanitary condition.
11. Maintains records of class attendance.
12. Nominate students and recommend the level of competency for examinations (NTA, MIC,CXC)
13. Adopt and implement the guide lines for mentoring and coaching. Appendix A &B.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
KNOWLEDGE BASE
1. A Bachelors of Science degree in area of subject specialty from a recognized University. (E)
2. Certification in teaching as evidenced by the possession of a Diploma in Education or equivalent in accordance with the Education Act. (E)
EXPERIENCE
1. At least three years (3) relevant work experience in the secondary school system in the delivery of the CXC syllabus. (E).
2. Registered in the Teachers Register (Education Act) Ministry of Education.(E)
3. Familiarity with overarching National Youth Policies, (D)
4. Experience in teaching students with Special Education requirements and with different learning abilities.(E)
