Substance Abuse Officers
POSITION SUMMARY: Plans, organizes, facilitates, monitors and reviews the activities of the Substance Abuse Officers in drug abuse prevention and co-ordinates the Eastern Region’s prevention planning programmes.

1. Plans and programmes are implemented within established format, within agreed timeframe and supports the established objectives of the Department
2. Key deliverables are produced within agreed timeframes to required standards as agreed
3. Reports are produced in accordance with the established format and submitted within
the timeframe required
4. Recommendations for corrective action and/or improvements are implemented in a timely manner.
5. Adequate controls and tracking systems are implemented and maintained
6. Approved changes are implemented within agreed timeframe, in accordance with stated expectations
7. Good working relationships with staff and stakeholders are maintained

Technical
• Knowledge and experience in the management of staff
• Interviewing and evaluation skills
• Knowledge of substance abuse prevention theories and planning
• Knowledge of the dynamics of community groups
• Ability to give lectures in primary, secondary and tertiary prevention of substance abuse
• Ability to incorporate needs of the community into agencies objective
• Ability to write a treatment plan for substance abuser
• Knowledge of available treatment resources
• Ability to maintain accurate clinical records and prepare reports.
• Ability to collate data for research purposes and to initiate and participate in research activities
