The UWI School of Business and Applied Studies Limited (trading as ROYTEC)is looking for a suitably qualified and experienced candidate to fill the following position:

Subject Head- Education
The Job: The incumbent is responsible for the provision of professional leadership to ensure high quality teaching and learning, effective use of resources, improving standards of achievement for all students and the evaluation of the effectiveness of teaching and learning, the subject curriculum and progress towards targets for students and faculty in order to inform future priorities for the subject area.
The primary responsibilities would include:
Review and approve all course outlines and teaching materials in collaboration with the Director-Academic Services to ensure consistency with approved syllabi.
Collaborate with UWI-ROYTEC in the recruitment and selection of faculty in the subject area.
Convene an orientation and planning meeting of lecturers at least two (2) weeks prior to the commencement of the term.
Review and report on the quality of teaching by each lecturer during the term. This includes a review of the Mid-term Evaluation of Teaching and Learning and making appropriate interventions in the pedagogical and didactic approaches to be used by lecturers so that students receive a high standard of learning from the course/s as identified.
Review and approve all examinations, coursework assignments and projects prescribed by lecturers to ensure the relevance to learning objectives and consistency across the board.
Ensure that all examinations are free from questions already contained in past examination papers.
Advise the Director- Academic Services of any perceived problems within the subject area that might affect the quality of the teaching and learning processes and successful delivery of the course.
Report to UWI-ROYTEC on any issue which may compromise the integrity of the Institution, including breach of regulations and conflict of interests on the part of lecturers and students.
Submit a written Subject Area Report to the Director - Academic Services within two (2) weeks of the end of term. The report should; address the issues discussed with lecturers during the term, comment on each Lecturer’s performance, make recommendations for the improvement of the course/s.
Conduct random sampling of Examination Answer Booklets to ensure consistency in marking by lecturers in the subject area.
Attend a meeting of the ROYTEC Board of Examiners and any other meetings convened for the purpose of inquiry into any aspect of the course/s identified.
Ensure that all examination question papers are protected by passwords, held under strict confidentiality, and that the integrity of the examination process for the relevant subject area is protected at all times.
Review the End of Term Evaluation of Teaching of the Lecturers in the relevant subject area and provide feedback to the Board of Examiners on the performance of each lecturer.
Participate in training and development workshops recommended/offered by UWI-ROYTEC.
Act as a reviewer, advising in this capacity, on curricula matters in the area of study to which he/she is appointed.
Review and approve all rubrics/suggested solutions and marking guides prepared by assigned lecturers before they are submitted to the Examinations Officer
Ensure that draft question papers are prepared by the First Examiner (Primary/Instructor) and that examinations are standardized across the different sections of the same course.
Standardize the mark/grades between different lecturer/examiners for the same course where appropriate.
Undertake a review of the standard of each examination as it relates to the course objectives before the draft question paper is submitted to the Manager- Registry Services.
Ensure that specimen/s of the final question paper(s) is/are checked prior to the examination by the First Examiner (Primary/Instructor).
Supervise the work of the programme coordinators
The ideal candidate should possess:
A PhD in Education or related field or be currently enrolled in a doctoral programme.
