Student Welfare Officer

UWI School of Business and Applied Studies Limited (trading as ROYTEC)is looking for a suitably qualified and experienced candidate to fill the following position:

INTERNAL VACANCY

Student Welfare Officer

The Job: The Student Welfare Officer is responsible for creating and implementing student programs and activities which contribute to a student’s holistic development. This position focuses on developing students, enhancing learning, building community and a positive school spirit, developing student relations and contributing to student retention.

The primary responsibilities would include:

  • Ensuring student access to health care, gym facilities and psychological services
  • Providing intermediate guidance to students while assessing students for referral to psychological counselling
  • Preparing regular student communication via student newsletter, website and other printed materials for student activities
  • Arranging seminars/ workshops for students aimed at facilitating their personal and professional development
  • Acting as a liaison between the Student Council and the Administration of ROYTEC and supervise the activities of the Student Council
  • Rendering assistance to the Manger in providing leadership training and workshops for the Student Council
  • Rendering assistance to the Manager in strategic planning for the department and its activities
  • Serving as an advocate and liaison for students; inform students about their rights and responsibilities represent students’ views and concerns.
  • Contributing to the enhancement of student’s experience by providing periodic reporting on student suggestions and feedback and recommending solutions
  • Organising recreational activities (social, cultural and sporting ) for students
  • Assisting with the co-ordination of the graduation exercise
  • Assisting students in locating suitable housing
  • Developing and organising alumni activities and services
  • Networking with employers in the recruitment of current students and alumni
  • Assisting with the development and coordination of ROYTEC’s mentorship and internship programme

 

 

 

Other Duties:

  • Practicing safe work habits and taking reasonable care to ensure the health and safety of self, and others under his/her supervision at work, including students
  • Observing all safety rules and procedures established by the regulatory authorities, the company or an individual with supervisory authority

 

 

The ideal candidate should possess:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a Social Science Discipline
  • At least two (2) years’ working experience in teaching or social work
  • Equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Pleasant disposition
  • Ability to get along with a wide cross-section of persons
  • A Team Player
