PURPOSE OF JOB:

This is a professional position which has responsibility for the instruction and supervision of students enrolled in Programs at the Special Needs Unit/ SNAP center.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Teaches all areas of the special education curriculum
• Takes responsibility for the progress of all students attending the SNAP Center
• Supervises and disciplines students as required
• Organizes the classroom and learning resources to create a positive learning environment
• Motivates students with enthusiastic, imaginative presentations/lessons
• Plans, prepares and presents lessons that cater for the needs of the whole ability range within the class
• Prepares and marks assignments, class work, and projects to facilitate positive student development
• Meets requirements for the assessment and recording of students' development
• Provides feedback to parents on student’s progress at parents’ evenings and other meetings
• Coordinates activities and resources within a specific area of the curriculum and support colleagues in delivering of this specialist area
• Works with others to plan and coordinate work
• Coordinates field trips and facilitate additional learning experiences for students
• Takes part in school events and activities which may take place on weekends or in the evenings
• Liaises with colleagues and work flexibly, particularly in smaller schools
• Engages in continuing professional development activities whether self-directed or initiated by the school/Ministry of Education
• Works with parents and the department and sister agencies to maximise the involvement in the school and the development of the resources of the school

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

• A Bachelor's degree in education with specialization in Special Education Training.

• A teacher's certificate or diploma (Note:  The certificate or diploma may be encompassed in the degree).

• The position requires a minimum of five (5) years teaching for the incumbent to effectively respond to the challenges of the job.
• Experience in working with Autistic children will be an asset. 

 Compensation:               

• Salary: TNF 8 - 13 $22,140.00 - $24,720.00 per annum
