SALARY $10,000                                            

 POSITION PURPOSE

Responsible for providing effective maintenance, repair and support services for equipment, and property throughout the organization.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES

 

To service and repair all Laboratory, ophthalmic, computer hardware, office equipment and appliances.

 

    • All machinery/equipment are serviced/repaired in accordance with the manufacturers’ standards.

    • Service dates are strictly adhered to and in-keeping with the annual preventative maintenance program.

    • To ensure that all requests for services are handled in a cost effective and timely manner.  If necessary, to source equipment parts and consumables for machinery, equipment, etc.

       

To provide effective maintenance support services in electrical works, and general office repairs etc.

 

  • To perform all works pertaining to maintenance repairs or service for all locations and properties in a timely and efficient manner to minimize inconvenience or down time.

  • To ensure that all requests for services are handled in a cost effective and timely manner (if necessary to source at least three quotations from vendors for approval).

     

To relocate and/or install existing or new equipment in various locations; to assist with technical layout.

 

    • Installation of new equipment is performed independently or with reference to the installation manual.

    • All necessary requirements are instituted when relocating machinery / equipment:

        1.  necessary documentation

        2. required tools

        3. physical installation and set up of equipment

        4. training of staff in the use of equipment

  • Transfer forms are completed within 24 hours.

     

To ensure Health and Safety practices are observed.

 

    • To ensure that there is no overloading of power supplies when handling electrical equipment and apparatus.

    • Cords, wires, etc. are properly secured and where necessary concealed.

    • Safety signs/apparatus/uniforms etc. are in use at all times.

        

To record and update service reports, parts/supplies inventory on computer database.

 

    • Database to be accurately updated on a weekly basis.

    • Service forms are completed for inspections and timely feedback given on findings and recommendations.

       

To assist in any other duties as required.

 

Inclusive of the following but not limited to:

  • Inspections of electrical work

  • Visit to the Branches to monitor performance of machinery/equipment, etc.

  • Supervision of works at various locations.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

EDUCATION / CERTIFICATION

 

  • Five (5) GCE O’Level passes grades A or B or CXC passes Grades I or II, including Mathematics and English Language.
  • An Advanced Certificate in Electronics, EEET or MEET
  • A+ Certification would be an asset.
  • Valid driver’s permit.
  • Certification in Defensive Driving would be an asset.

 

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

 

  • At least three (3) years experience in as a Technician, similar position or related field.
  • Knowledge in Occupational Safety and Health practices.

 

SKILLS / ABILITIES:

 

  • Ability to carry out complex equipment repairs independently.
  • Good communication skills
  • Professional appearance, dress and attitude
  • Excellent time-management skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of staff with a high level of professionalism

 

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION

 

TALKING:

  • Especially where one must frequently convey detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately, loudly or quickly.

 

AVERAGE HEARING:

  • Able to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information.

 

VISUAL ABILITIES:

  • Average, ordinary visual acuity necessary to inspect machine parts or operate machinery.

 

PHYSICAL STRENGTH:

 

  • Energetic work; very active most of the time.  Lifting and moving of boxes and packages, machinery and equipment up to 100lbs with the use of an in-house trolley.

MENTAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION:

 

REASONING ABILITY:

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed instructions and to deal with problems involving a few variables.
  • Ability to process data and analyze technical variables to determine the cause of a problem and relevant solution.

 

 

MATHEMATICAL ABILITY:

  • Ability to perform engineering math.

 

LANGUAGE ABILITY:

 

  • Ability to use passive vocabulary of 5-6000 words; to read at a rate to ensure understanding; to define unfamiliar words in dictionaries for meaning spelling and pronunciation.
  • Ability to write sentences using proper punctuation, spelling and correct names.
  • Ability to do reports.
  • Ability to communicate to suppliers and internal customers using normal word order with present and past tenses; using a good vocabulary.
