Job Summary
The Senior Surveyor’s responsibility is to assist the engineers and planners in their functions by providing technical support on a variety of projects and programmes and reports to the Head of Section.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
• Plans and organizes survey expeditions, including arranging equipment and coordinating teams.
• Measures angles, distances and elevations using various methods including, surveying equipment, tape or steel band, and with digital equipment that uses satellite (GPS).
• Uses a variety of tools to collect data in the field and to record field notes and measurements.
• Transport, assemble, dismantle and maintain surveying equipment, including GPS equipment.
• Downloads digital survey data and assist in the preparation of survey plans and spreadsheets.
• Maintains and updates computer databases used for the storage and retrieval of spatial data and ensure back-up practices are carried out according to organizational guidelines.
• Research relevant survey plans, control marks and existing infrastructure information for projects.
• Accurately complete all documentation associated with data collection and processing, and maintain design office records including registration, filing and copying of plans and documents.
• Maintains OHS, environmental and legislative requirements and responsibilities including roadside safety practices.
• Prepares technical reports, survey orders and cadastral plans.
• Liaises with the Director of Surveys, Commissioner of State Lands, other state agencies and the public.
• Coordinates and supervises land acquisition.
• Takes action against encroachment on reserves belonging to the state.
• Supervises junior surveying staff.
• Performs related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
• Bachelor of Science Degree in Land Surveying or Geomatics.
• Registered with the Land and Survey Board of Trinidad and Tobago.
• Possess a Land Surveyor’s License.
• Considerable related work experience in Land Surveying or Geomatics.
• Proficiency in Total Station operation and automated data collection.
• Proficiency in operating Trimble GPS would be an asset.
Required Competencies, Skills and Abilities
• Experience in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel would be an asset.
• Good interpersonal, communicative and analytical skills. Ability to understand and effectively carry out written and verbal instructions.
