JOB TITLE: Senior Crown Counsel, Commercial/Civil
DEPARTMENT: Attorney General’s Chambers

JOB SUMMARY:
This professional position has system wide responsibility for providing accurate legal advice to the Government and efficient representation where necessary. The Senior Crown Counsel is expected to generate satisfactory results when the legal advice provided which is credible and rarely results in litigation against the government; government officers are trained in basic legal issues relevant to their functions; and agreements negotiated are favourable to the development of Turks and Caicos Islands.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervise Crown Counsel and provide training where necessary
Assign tasks to the Crown Counsel and assess performance
Conduct research of complex areas of law
Prepare legal instruments on behalf of the government
Prepare cases for trial
Respond cases for trial
Respond to queries made by government departments
Provide legal advice to all government departments
Undertake tasks assigned by the Deputy Attorney-General or Attorney General
Monitor all work done in the respective Division
Conduct seminars and train personnel in government departments on legal issues regarding their work e.g. Customs, Immigrations and Police Officers
Develop and assist in the development of new legislation and the review or amendment of old legislations
Adhere to all Public Service codes, rules and regulations.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
This position requires a Bachelor of Laws or its equivalent.
In addition to a Bachelor of Laws the position requires that the job holder possess a Legal Profession Certificate or its equivalent as well as specialized training in criminal law, commercial law, civil law and/or legislative drafting, and to be called to the bar in the Turks and Caicos Islands or to have been called to the bar or admitted as a solicitor or an attorney in some part of the Commonwealth or the Republic of Ireland.
The position requires at least Seven (7) years on the job experience
REMUNERATION PACKAGE:
SALARY -$64,800.00 per annum
TRANSPORTATION ALLOWANCE - $2,220 per annum
TELEPHONE ALLOWANCE - $1,200 per annum
PROFESSIONAL ALLOWANCE - $6,000 per annum
For persons recruited from outside of the Turks and Islands, a two (2) year contract extendable on mutual agreement to three (3) years is offered. Other benefits, in addition to the stated allowances include an end-of-contract gratuity of 15% of salary; return passage, for family of up to two children up to the age of eighteen (18) years as well as duty free concession on the shipment of personal effects imported within six (6) months of appointment.
