The Protection Systems Engineer II is responsible for maintainin and optimizing the reliability and performance of the Protection Systems associated with the BELCO Electrical Power Network.
The Protection Systems Engineer II is responsible for maintainin and optimizing the reliability and performance of the Protection Systems associated with the BELCO Electrical Power Network. Range of duties include responsibility for the complete electrical network (Transmission/ Distribution/ Generation) - commissioning and maintenance testing, project management, conducting basic engineering studies, and electrical and safety training.
Key Responsibilities (include but are not limited too)
Provide on-site project coordination & commissioning services associated with protective relay maintenance, testing, and modernization efforts
Test, replace/upgrade protective relaying systems, substation integration & automation systems, substation control systems and remote terminal unit (RTU) equipment in a given location
Review electrical drawings/ schematics for accuracy/ suitability
Write relay test plan, change over plans, and scheme functional test plans
Providing direction to other personnel to safely do work in energized Power System/ substation environment
Provide outage coordination with the BELCO Transmission & Distribution Operations Control Center, as appropriate
Modify/ upgrade wiring diagrams for suitable protection schemes changes
Test the protective functions of protective relaying systems using suitable relay test equipment (Omicron, Sverker, Doble, etc), software and test routines
Key Job Requirements
Graduate Engineer and 5 years experience or Graduate of Electrical Technical School or equivalent (HNC/ HND) and 10 years minimum same or similar work experience in the field of Power System Protection
Strong background and experience in most types of protection systems testing and commissioning associated with generation/ transmission/ Distribution systems through the 69 kV class
Knowledge and experience with the configuration & testing of microprocessor-based integration & automation systems
Knowledge and experience with the setting & testing of Alstom, Areva, Schneider, ABB, Siemens microprocessor-based protective relaying systems (Micom, Agile, Siprotec for example)
Experience with various communication protocols (Modbus, DNP3, etc)
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with ability to communicate with all levels
Able to complete projects consistently on-budget and at reasonable margin levels
Strong computer skills in addition to Microsoft Suite, able to use a Design Cad package such as Auto Cad
Able to write detailed reports and process project billing recaps
Strong multi-tasking skills, able to handle several priority issues at one time
