JOB SUMMARY:

 This supervisory position has system wide responsibility for the efficient administration of the Civil Division and resolution of complex legal matters arising in the area of or connected with Commercial and Civil litigation by and against the Government.  The Principal Crown Counsel is expected to generate satisfactory results when the legal advice provided is credible and rarely results in litigation against the government; government officers are trained in basic legal issues relevant to their functions; and agreements negotiated are favourable to the development of Turks and Caicos Islands.

 

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  

  1. This position is responsible for the effective management of the Commercial/Civil divisions of the Chambers.
  2. To provide legal advice to the Government as follows: The Governor

           Ministers, Ministries and Department in relation to a wide range of Government activities.

  • Public Service Commission

  • Land Registry

 To conduct and assist in the conduct of commercial/civil litigation by and against Government, including preparatory work and appearing as an advocate in civil proceedings before the various courts and tribunals in the Turks and Caicos Islands.

  1. To advise on Government Contracts and Commercial transactions and prepare documentation.
  2. To supervise Senior and Junior staff.
  3. Adhere to all Public Service codes, rules and regulations.
  4. Other duties as may be directed by the Attorney General from time to time


QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

 Qualified and eligible to practise in a Commonwealth Law Jurisdiction or the Republic of Ireland.  Experience in Civil and Commercial litigations as well as commercial and contract negotiations and documentations in both Private and Public Service would an advantage.

  • No less than Ten (10) years experience

 REMUNERATION PACKAGE:


SALARY -$81,240.00 per annum


TRANSPORTATION ALLOWANCE - $2,220 per annum


TELEPHONE ALLOWANCE - $1,200 per annum


PROFESSIONAL ALLOWANCE - $6,000 per annum


For persons recruited from outside of the Turks and Islands, a two (2) year contract extendable on mutual agreement to three (3) years is offered.  Other benefits, in addition to the stated allowances include an end-of-contract gratuity of 15% of salary; return passage, for family of up to two children under the age of sixteen (16) years as well as duty free concession on the shipment of personal effects imported within six (6) months of appointment.
