We invite applications for a new Digicel Opportunity - Power Engineer
Primary objective of the job:
Manage implementation and maintenance requirements for all electro-mechanical systems, to include standby generator, all electrical systems, UPS and DC power plants etc.
Number of persons managed/supervised and their positions:
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
1.Operations Management
- Ensure the effective Preventative and Corrective Maintenance of all power equipment across the business.
- Ensures the timely effective implementation of all Electro-Mechanical Projects.
- Monitors the Schedules and Budgets for Repair-Electrical,UPS,DC power plants and stand-by generator.
- Prepare and manage all service contracts to ensure compliance with agreed terms.
- Control work of external consultant
- Submit written reports on an ongoing basis
- Supervision of work standard and quality of contractors
- Cost management of contractors
2. Cost Management
- Create and implement preventative maintenance plans for all the electrical and stand-by generator systems at all the facilities.
- Perform ongoing assessment of all existing electro-mechanical systems to determine needs analysis, and determine the appropriate recommendation
- Monitoring of Generator monitoring system to identify and correct generator faults
- Corrective maintenance of electrical and standby power support systems
3. Supplier Management
- Assess all electro-mechanical systems recommended by suppliers and produce reports.
- Research and assess new developments in standards, keeping pace with changes in technology to determine suitability to the needs of department
- Assess current systems and make the necessary recommendations and actions to ensure constant support of network
4. Provisioning of Power and Grounding to Up-graded Cell Sites
- Develop electrical specifications for standby generators and for related electrical upgrade at all cell sites.
- Manage the implementation process with JPS to provide upgrades to existing cell sites and switch facilities
- Liaise with contractors to provide the best solution for power upgrades to existing cell sites
- Constantly assess all Switch buildings to ensure that international standards are maintained after upgrades and new installations.
5. Time Cost & Quality Management
- Ensure goals for time, cost and quality are achieved, implementing appropriate plans
- Develop and implement internal processes
- Check and approve quotations and invoices and support finance
- Issue Purchase Orders to suppliers and contractors
6. Database Information
- Ensure Database is kept updated with site standby power information to support the Construction and maintenance process.
- Ensure the Inventory database is kept current.
7. Support
- Keep Engineering Manager updated by regular reports and updates
- Support the Field, NOC and NMS section to ensure provision of support resources to the network
- Support the Rollout process by provision of standby power and grounding upgrades to cell sites
- Support the switching, IP, Transmission and Radio section by management and provision of power and cooling for new and upgraded equipment.
Academic qualifications and experience required for job:
- Diploma in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
- Minimum of two (2) years practical experience in electrical systems up to 415v, operations of standby generators up to 500KVA.

- Directing contractors on logistics, routine & emergency works

Working Conditions: (e.g. dust, dirt, heat, abnormal hours, frequent travel, overtime, etc.
- Required to travel island wide on short notice
- Exposed to exhaust fumes and high noise levels
- Exposed to high voltage equipment
- Exposed to grease dirt and extreme temperature changes
- Exposed to fast moving power equipment
- Exposed to some radiation (microwave radios)
- Required to be available at low traffic transmission hours to power up equipment
Key Performance Indicators:
- Ninety (95%) percent of projects implemented, are completed within time & cost
- Equipment faults affecting core business are resolved within eight (8) hours
- All works carried out meets local & equipment engineering standards
- Contractor invoices checked and approved for accuracy within 36 hrs.
- Ensure equipment is available 99 % at all times
